This time last year I was a Level 4 at
less n £20k a year and constant promises of salary increases within the next 6 months that never came. 7 years with this place and I honestly never learned. Well I cast a net out and eventually left late last year for a 100% pay rise and haven't looked back since.
I see a lot of people who are reluctant to leave even though they're on a similarly cr-p wage and/or working at a level above me because they're so used to being here and feel institutionalised. And it doesn't help that people frequently keep saying "in this climate you'll never find work next to the giants of [BIGNAMEHERE]"
I think one thing people don't appreciate is just how good a lot of the people still working here can be, because they've been desensitised to constant pressure and used to dealing with disasters on the daily. This is a bit of a culture shock when going somewhere a little more quiet in BAU but my point stands.
Going from DXC to where I am now, while I've run into some of the same problems (difficult clients, vague contracts) at an account level from an organisational level it just doesn't compare. Seeing my current employer for all its flaws doesn't even touch on the cr-p I saw at DXC (including placing uncleared resources on UK secure accounts)
Meanwhile - I've heard from a few ex colleagues still working here, cost cutting has stepped up with every minute of overtime having to be justified (and as my mate put it, "being short staffed is not justification for OT") and the promise of time off in lieu dangled like a carrot constantly, equipment orders being nigh impossible to make because managers don't want to give out a WBS code etc
Also hearing that the existing on call policies have changed but don't know the details? Someone said they're looking to get rid of on-call for ITO & have it all managed by the 24x7 Ops crew which is going to be a disaster seeing as they barely have enough guys for BAU patching exercises.
