Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Decision on the Willow project has been made

HOUSTON – ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) welcomes the Department of the Interior’s Record of Decision (ROD) on the Willow project, adopting the three core pads detailed in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) preferred Alternative E. ConocoPhillips Alaska completed extensive preparations with key contractors and expects to immediately initiate gravel road construction activities. The company continues to review the ROD and will advance internal approval processes towards a Final Investment Decision.

“This was the right decision for Alaska and our nation,” said Ryan Lance, ConocoPhillips chairman and chief executive officer. “Willow fits within the Biden Administration’s priorities on environmental and social justice, facilitating the energy transition and enhancing our energy security, all while creating good union jobs and providing benefits to Alaska Native communities.”
(…)
Located in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A), the Willow project is estimated to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak, decreasing American dependence on foreign energy supplies. The project is projected to deliver between $8 billion to $17 billion in new revenue for the federal government, the state of Alaska and North Slope Borough communities. Willow will be built using materials primarily made and sourced in the U.S. and has the potential to create over 2,500 construction jobs and approximately 300 long-term jobs.

And the lawsuits to stop it have already been filed. Maybe keep a cork in the champagne for now, eh Alaska crew?

Willow was an accidental discovery after previous luminaries assuring everyone that such a play couldn’t possibly exist. Anyone who thought otherwise or had expertise in said plays was shown the door. But of course now we pretend it was all part of the plan and wisdom of the genius explorations teams in Alaska. The same ones that haven’t found anything worth a sp-t since.

I wonder if the actual small independent company that found WIllow will get a finder's fee? A disgrace that COP has had these lands for 30 years and never couldn't find anything themselves except excuses. The Alaska BU is the worst for poor performing employees and managers who dont deserve to be in the industry, most losers from other companies or countries.

Willow, jasmine, GOM, Denver Basin, Austin chalk, PRB, they’re all in the same category. Over promise, under perform, make excuses, shift managers to new positions, layoff the excess employees, rise, repeat.
SPIRIT values in action.

@1wqr+1lCnlFaE : you’re partially right. Executive leadership (CEO +1) do not exaggerate to persuade investors. You hear the CEO state very clearly that he and other leaders across the company must set the example every day of how to conduct our business in a safe, ethical, and trustworthy manner. That by itself is almost laughable, but all employees attest to this every year as part of the annual ethics certification process which the company has in place. Now BU Presidents and management within the BU are a different story…They are compensated very well to exaggerate the profitability of their development projects in order to compete for limited annual capital resources which must be distributed across the company portfolio. At the end of the day, there must be an underlying technical assessment performed by the asset teams justifying the performance expectations of the project. Is there an element of management coercion within any BU? Yes. I am personally aware of technical staff that were let go because their BU VP told them to exaggerate the profitability of their projects or be faced with a career ending decision. I’m not sure why BU management would say that to their technical staff unless local BU management is lying to the corporation and not aligning to our underlying SPIRIT values. Look closely at the company’s long range plan and you will quickly realize it is guaranteed to fail. I can’t wait to hear the Analyst and Investor meeting next month. I’m sure there will be plenty of pretty PowerPoint slides showing why COP is the E&P company of choice and that the new 10 year plan is even better than the previous one. Smart Growth, Superior Returns, SPIRIT Values… Learn it, live it, love it.

Now we’ll find out just how huge and amazingly productive Willow actually is. I mean, no way was leadership exaggerating it just to persuade investors, right? Right?!
