Nothing proprietary about Linux. So ibm bought a client base and some business software. Congrats IBM 👏 👏 👏 . The real problem with IBM is that they lack talent. They have no one with a brain willing to work for them anymore.

The problem is they paid an exorbitant premium for tech that was approaching its decline cycle and is now in it

Buying another company was the only option they had. They had to change the trajectory

  1. Legacy HW/SW was shrinking
  2. Old business model was out of gas and shrinking
  3. IBM completely missed cloud
  4. Services had gone commodity to Infosys, Wipro, etc etc
  5. IBM had exited Intel

What other choice did they have?

Buying another co.pany to save your company isn't the answer. It's a desperate hailmary attempt.

AK became CEO because he realized the era of services was over and had fallen into the commodity bucket. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that, but Ginni milked the cow until it died and then got a 20 million bonus for decreasing revenue by 40 billion over her tenure. Great work if you can get it, but quite unsustainable from a company point of view. AK sold his vision to the board, and they overpaid for Redhat, but what was the alternative? HW was done, Legacy SW was done, middleware was done, cloud was non-existent for IBM, and Intel was good enough for 85% of the customers, but Ginni had sold that off, thus something completely different had to be tried. Enter Consulting and SW modernization within enterprises via Redhat. Guess what, it’s working as IBM has stopped hemorrhaging revenue, and actually begun growing it again. AK’s biggest problem isn’t vision, but rather is he doesn’t know how to cut costs to align with headcount. Until he figures that out, IBM will just muddle along.

@1kbo+1lAVZ0He -- everyone knows how he as well as his predecessor got to be CEO: checked certain boxes which appeased the woke mob.

Doesn't seem like much given what a lot of CEOs are being paid these days.
