Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

They will force you back

Some BUs are already piloting a full return to the office or 4 days each week of the month.

I also noticed how the “dynamic working” calendar is set up to get some psychologically used to being in the office. Started as three days, now 5 days, and each month the week inside the office is spaced out less.

Abby, who rides to the Boston office in a luxury limo, believe it’s essential to the culture that the rest of us deal with brutal commutes that take up 2 hours for many of us.

FCM just went to 3 days a week plus 5 during the connect week. People are pi---d and most people leave early when they’re in the office, so they get less done.

so the nerds in analytics already have charts showing the lack of productivity from work from homers. The reckoning is coming. Quit your second job and get back to the office.

SVB bank even admitted their work from home policy resulted in lack of production.

Thing is, you refuse to believe we are doing work. Hard-headed opinions. We don’t need to go to work to have our only social time. You shouldn’t care what other people want to do. You continue your office life.

Employees should be called back to the office. There are several of them simply enjoying at home while making the H1 employees do the work for them and take credit in turn. This is mostly observed in the Quality Assurance department.

I'm sure this is how the conversation goes. "Look at all those losers working from home who didn't get to drive an hour each way in traffic to do the same job they do from home. I'm so glad I come in so I can actually have a social life. Let's go down and get some overpriced inedible food."

Meanwhile I could get a 5% raise and you could get 10% and mine will still be more $ than you. Idc if you go in every day why do you care so much if others don't want to? Maybe you need to be seen because your performance doesn't speak for itself. Not sure who I need to be seen by considering I haven't had a manager on site in 9 years.

when I get the raise and you don't, then you'll know why. Something to be said for being seen...just saying. It's nice to rag on the work from homers when we're in the office. You have to know how to play the game.

Imagine someone having the audacity to just want to do the job they were hired (and paid) to do. I've yet to see a role that includes chatting with people, eating in the Cafe, or playing co-----e and ping pong as a requirement. Sounds like you can't move up based on performance so you need to rely on things like getting in person face time to be effective and/or respected. Bless your heart.

Cut out the quiet quitting BS comments…people shouldn’t be overworked and underpaid in the first place.

ah, the quiet quitters and bare minimum monday folks are upset they have to return to the office for one week a month. Let's have a pity party. If you're as good as you are, then quit and find a remote job and put the hurt to them. Pretty simple.

Here's the best thing (and why I know they're full of it when the talk about retaining talent). I know someone in Covington who has been with Fidelity 15 years and always a top performer. They applied for a position that is posted as full remote because they have to move for family reasons. They were told they can't get a remote position because they are aligned with a site already (even though the hiring manager wanted them). Then the position was filled by someone who has never worked at Fidelity as fully remote. So they want it both ways, take talent wherever it is but sc--w anyone who has proven themselves because damn it we need people swiping their badge 5 days a month.

If we go back to 50 percent I hope we can pick half of the days at least.

Many groups were already doing work from home before the pandemic, including only 1 day in office a week, 2, down from 3…even workplace phone reps were doing it. This would be terrible.

"the commute was fine when you were thankful you got a job at Fidelity."

And horses were a great way to get around before cars were a thing.

I HATE Dynamic Working but going to have to call bs on this. There are some BUs where the leaders are requesting >1 week a month but that is BU specific. Also what does "each month the week inside the office is spaced out less" even mean? There are 3 weeks between each DW week. But it is stupid af to make people come in to "connect". Nobody is having random conversations, they speak to their friends, do their work, and go home asap. Everyone I know goes in around 9 and leaves by 12:30.

Which BUs are doing this pilot? I know in TX and SMT some folks just started adhering to the Dynamic requirements.

FI has been told the most aggressive endgame will be 50% in-office with flexibility from Directors. So ten days a month.

But some people have exceptions to not come in yet they are not hiding the fact they’re going to gyms, restaurants, vacations etc on social media. It’s amazing and demoralizing to a lot of us but I know we shouldn’t care.

The "pilot" was at one time the norm, which is what she considers and wants to be the norm again.

You're wrong on all accounts. Abby does not get the luxury treatment in a limo. Does she get driven, sure but not always.

No plans or strategy as you suggested exist.
