Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Email about returning company property?

Anybody else get an email about returning company property?

I still work for the company, but I got an email from somebody in NJ and the email had a prepaid UPS Ground attachment to send my computer, but not my displays or chair or printer, to somebody in Durham, North Carolina.

Do we have an office in Durham, NC?

Was that a scam or am I about to be laid off?

So with yesterday's layoffs, I know another list will be coming out. I pray everyone is safe, but sadly I know this isn't the case.

To the OP, I like how they said if you are not yet relieved of duty. This was sent to the wrong list. So that means more layoffs are coming, doesn't it? Really inspiring confidence in my career with this company. Guess I need to polish up my resume asap!

They want computers back because of the company data on the hard drive. They wipe them clean and then they are usually destroyed by another company. or if they are newer given to another employee.

You think Pearson has anyone to sort through, store and repurpose the equipment? It’s cheaper just to let you keep it. No different than a sample copy. Cheaper to just throw it away than to send it back

I'm the person who originally posted the question. I got an answer this morning.

They said that the email had been sent to an incorrect list, and that if I was wasn't yet "relieved of duty" I can ignore it.

In the meantime, I looked up the name of the person who sent the email out in New Jersey, and to whom the UPS label is addressed to in North Carolina, and both are in Teams.

We do have an office in Durham, North Carolina. I didn't know that.

The UPS label is addressed to a guy who is listed on LinkedIn as the "Head of Cyber Security Investigations and Forensics Response", senior manager of information security, global lead responsible for managing digital investigations and forensics responses, and supporting eDiscovery in relation to litigation, HR and compliance.

I have to say that the original email from NJ seemed like a scam. It's as if somebody hacked a list of people who were being laid off and tried to get the employees to send their laptops to somebody else.

I remember last year Pearson was sending out phishing emails to employees. A colleague opened the email to read it, but didn't click within the email, but later got a nastygram from some cyber security group, I think out of London. They really do think we're all stupid and little children.

I left over a year ago, reached out to send my equipment back and no response. Tried to drop it off at the location near me and was told they don't accept equipment anymore and it has to be sent to st Louis. I use the monitors every day, still have my chair and the laptop just sits there. Strange that a company wouldn't want to collect equipment...

left 3 years back, still have my Dell and iPad. Requested a return box twice, and never received a reply. The kids love the iPad, just have to keep them off oneCRM as not to send out desk copies!

I was laid off in December and have sent a million emails trying to return my computer and can’t get ahold of anyone.

I was laid off in November and have still not received that email. No one asked for anything back, yet.
