WD is advertising for two HAMR tribologists and one media. Also looking for a junior recording characterization. There CEO claimed in their last earnings call that HAMR "still a couple of years away from reaching mass production, I think everybody in the industry would agree with that." This is also the same person who claimed in 2020 that MAMR was on track for 40TB. Alas, then he updated that in the last earning calls by showing ePMR (what MAMR turned into) got them a whopping 10% AD increase- which i will point out doesn't agree with what they have presented in scientific conferences/papers/blog posts. ePMR2 + optinand + smr gave them 20%. This, of course, contradicts what is in their blog posts also.

In other words, listening to the CEO of WD that comes from Cisco who still doesn't understand jack about storage is probably not the best way to discern what is going on.

Their debt on paper looks ok, but if you dig into it, it's still 7-8 Billion. Some of which they will have to refinance w/ higher rates. Too bad they wasted 1-2 Billion listening to the snake oil from a certain CMU professor.

WD CEO made fun of HAMR in their AH meeting while they are aggressively trying to hire HAMR engineers before the next set of rifs. They know they are behind and scrambling to catch up.
