Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Return to Office

My boss officially told us to come in 3 days a week. DF, and maybe of his direct reports work outside of MI. What does lead by example really mean?

@pqf+1l6HAPi7 The Explorer/Aviator that was the major cause of those low ratings was designed/launched before WFH.

I was on a conference call with a new engineer in MX last year. She was WFH. Not sure what their new PDC set up is like.

I’m sure some folks in here know someone in MX to ask. I’m not in engineering, it was just a 1 off mtg.

It's Mexico. They get an assigned desk but it is shared with 5 others. At the same time.

@1gld+1l6HAPi7 kind of wondering... in the new mexico product dev center, do employees have their own desks? or do they do "hoteling" there too (ugh)

I hear ya @1obv
I use to WFH one day a week. When I would come into the office the day after WFH some slob had used my cube. There was grease and food all over my keyboard and mouse, the chair had stains and the desk was a sticky greasy mess. I started locking my keyboard, mouse and anything movable inside my desk drawers before leaving for the evening and covering my chair with dry cleaner bags. I even left a bottle of windex and paper towels in the middle of the desk as a hint to the slob. The behavior continued, and the slob stole the windex and the bounty paper towels.
Turns out the entitled slob was an entitled PM, caught her in the act when I didn’t WFH one day. She had the nerve to tell me to find somewhere else to work as the cube was hers for the day. I stood my ground and started tossing all her stuff out of the cube.
What a piece of work, and yes, she still is at Ford. Hot mess in more than one sense.

I don't want to share a desk with anyone. I used to get pi---d when someone was sitting in my desk when I would arrive in the morning. Usually it was the 5 am crew who would come in and drink coffee for 2 hours and prep to go home at 1:30pm. These were the same folks who would save their vacation and disappear for a month after Thanksgiving Break and show up on the last working day of December so they could be excused at noon.

I had parts, tools and snacks at my desk..

Further I have witnessed the habits of some of my co-workers and it is just plain scary.

Our building janitor posted a sign in the bathroom showing the proper way to use the toilet after someone did a hover above the seat A$$ explosive $hit. You can't make this sh-t up.

I was a good worker and got my sh-t done.. The company would be much better off if management would listen to the folks who are trying to deliver on their bone headed ideas.

Perfect example is the DPS6 Trans in the Focus... All the engineers who worked on it said it was not going to be accepted by the customer....Nothing like ki-ling a nameplate.

My wife is pi---d that I don't have to put up with the bull$hit of my job and she still has to go to work. No WFH at the High School. They gutted our building but it was always a musty old ho-e of a place. A wrecking ball would have been a facelift. Long live the mattress factory.

Retirement is wonderful.

@teg,

Haven't you followed any of the news?! It doesn't matter where the "work" is done.
Web Ex, PowerPoint and spreadsheets can be done in Mexico and Brazil very easily.

@pqf+1l6HAPi7 - as GM just went back to the office, I hardly see where we work matters. You sound bitter. I’m glad I don’t have to spend my day being in your headspace.

Ford and Lincoln rank at bottom of Quality rankings. Seems like Working from Home is working well. I applaud you slackers and will reward you by buying a GM SUV when I trade in my Explorer ST! Keep working from home you lazy slugs!

@zub+1l6HAPi7 incorrect. I do not agree or disagree with statement. I object for someone saying leave or stfu to someones opinion. Not necessary when it is simply someone preference. oh and by the way I have been going into the office for 2 years now so I guess your statement is way of base. Again RESPECT you never know or understand peoples reasons

Exactly, a permanent desk, with the engineers components and parts that interface stacked around the desk.

RTO!

"everyone has a right to their opinion as well as reasons to go into the office or work remotely. You choose to go in good for you. your choice. No one needs your rude comments about a question. Go in to the office enjoy yourself or spread your rudeness to them. Allow people their own opinions"

They are rude because you do not agree with the statement. You seem to me like you need a safe space. Go apply at Google. LOL

I would prefer to be back in the office, but the facilities are not able to support what we really need. As a previous poster point out, > half of the job still requires webex but the new, open air, hotelling structure makes having a call totally disruptive, white noise generators or not. I can't figure out how this all make sense. At least with a permanent location and cubicle quads in the old days, we had some level of privacy to conduct calls and people knew where to find us.

I think OP's point is that our leaders are not following the same rules. Most of the new silicone valley executive hires are living in California or other states. So are there two sets of rules?

If you don't want to come back to work then just leave and find another job, if its so easy good luck. You have freedom still to do so. Or STFU

GM is in it's second full week of RTO. And were already eating Ford's lunch.
So go ahead and quit if you think you worth so much more.

I told you guys this was coming. Eventually it will be 4 days/week. Then the expectation will be everyday again. This is coming from the very top. WFH is the scapegoat for all of the company's ills.

RTO and more Covid-19 cases, some of which will result in SIDP. This will save the company the cost of a severance package.

"On Web Ex calls all day." That is exactly why Ford is loosing money. The Engineers need to be working more hands on with the components and vehicles, and less talking about spreadsheets and PowerPoint.

If I go into the office, I’ll be on webex calls all day with my team that’s now working remotely all across the US. Sounds efficient.

Do what I say, not what I do. Besides, RTO is a way of pressing the workforce to quit. and save some severance packages.
