BEING FORCED TO PUT IN PTO

I Recently few months back went from FULL TIME TO PART TIME and my
Manager said even though I am PART TIME now I have to put in Pto for the average numbers I work a week when I need off . I thought part timers did not have to put in pto when they need off and she said we do . Can someone please clarify this for me ? Or help me find the policy

You do not have to put in PTO, you can put in unpaid time off. Your manager does not have to approve unpaid time off. You do not have to put in PTO time to make your 20 hours per week. Your 20 hours per week is not guaranteed, as a matter of fact, HO says that part time is not guaranteed any hours per week.

"I requested a day off. Then the schedule came out it should me off. I changed my mind and didn't need that day so I did cancel PTO and it put back on schedule. That is true. I was surprised but didn't mind I was going to work it."

You did it too soon. Wait until the night before.

The comment about PPTO is correct. You need to put in a request for time off, unpaid, doctors appointment, school activities, etc., three to four weeks prior to schedule coming out. Computer will try to generate that day off even if no-one has approved or denied the request. And the comment about cancelling PTO requests true however managers have gotten wise to the trick, if you use it don't be surprised when you show back up on the schedule for the day you requested off.

Request off, put in pto, when it is approved and the scchedule come out and gives you that day off go in and cancel the request. You'll be off the schedule and wont burn pto. And i dont think thats a policy, so check with your market human resources person. Or ask your manager to show you were that policy is written on the wire.

Best I can say, and it's not "POLICY", my THOUGHTS are this: If you are already scheduled to work those days, PPTO is your only option, unless you accept the "Points" for being absent those parts of the shift. The last I heard, PPTO can be used in 15 minute increments "After the fact", as long as it is entered in the computer within the same pay period. (Tricky, so watch it closely.)
