@fb I loved my job and enjoyed the culture of the people of Hughes. From a workforce standpoint, of my 25 year career in various companies, Hughes people were the best. Pradman (rest in peace) fortified that family care to everyone, and in turn we brought that to our customers.

That culture went their separate ways yesterday and is now the end of an era of a fantastic workforce.

@dw it was a group dismissal in waves by org and dept. Some people had to go to front auditorium. Some had to go to a conference room. It was every hour or half hour starting at 9am. Our VP told us the company made "the difficult decision to eliminate all of your positions". He said that we would have until the end of the day to turn in our badge. There was one HR rep in the room. The VP was near tears. We were told we would be paid, but not required to come to work, until 9/22 and to update our emails with the Hr rep in the room so they could send us info about cobra etc.

I'm probably one of the few people who loved my job. I wish it had not come to this.

@f5 , Hossein running the company? He’s part of the management that has brought HNS to this disaster. But on the other hand if this company is a sinking ship, he would be just as good of a useful id--t as any to steer it to the ocean bottom.

@f7 exactly. In most companies when sales people cannot make their quota they are fired. Our sales people sit in the office most days and revise down their quotas throughout the year. Forecasts are mostly bs hence the yearlong revisions. End of year, rinse repeat. Year after year. Couple this with offering products no one wants and here we are.

@f1 yeah it seems they just want to keep it running till the last 1$ profit and then liquidate it

@ex , I don’t think the intention is to replace these people. There are too many that have been shown the door - senior level management- for that to make any sense. Possibly they’re going to liquidate the company entirely? I’d like to see how this plays out to understand what the endgame is for this level of firings.

@d2 Charlie spent his money and time chasing 5g network that too at the last moment. He was just sitting on spectrum doing nothing over those years. He is the one to be blamed.

@b0 what did the Email say? How were you told you were laid off, and by whom, your Manager or Hughes HR dept or someone else. Was it a group dismissal or one on one. We are all very concerned about our colleagues and want to know how this was handled.

Hughes' engineering team has totally lost its mojo. Look at all the satellite comms startups right now—they’re packed with young kids who have the drive, crazy ideas, and the guts to actually build stuff. Hughes is basically a sinking Titanic these years, and honestly, you can't put all the blame on Charlie. This whole 'boomer mentality' in our corporate culture is what ki-led our competitive edge.

Don’t just blame Charlie. Hughes Business/sales/executive group at top were most incompetent. After Pradman left , Hamid had warned them to be prepared for starlink and focus on enterprise. These so called senior executives rose through ranks as glorified PMs who had no business acumen or product strategy. The only thing they knew was cutting cost. Their bloated ego blinded them so much that they could not innovate or come up with any strategy and fed the most common excuse through their stooges that Charlie stole the billions and we have no money to do anything. For those who tried hard to propose anything , they landed on deaf ears as these leaders had no technical acumen to visualize the solution, let alone sell. When sales and marketing keeps sitting in office all day long , what sale do you expect to happen. If Hamid had stayed focused on Hughes after creating P&L , he would have definitely fired these elite glorified executives. Charlie is just playing poker which is what he does best: emotionless , fake and deceitful. No wonder Hamid left after putting a big fight ,after getting billions for Charlie and family. Once done he was also swept aside.
Charlie did the best deal for himself all along. Took Hughes cash in billions to spend on 5G and then squandered it; transfered Hughes satellite to Echostar and made Hughes pay millions annually. Then take all Hughes owned spectrum and make billions out of it by selling to ATT but it hurts him hard ad he never likes to pay vendors or his creditors. He even stole the equity Options of employees by firing them before the vesting date so that he gets those shares back in his pocket as if his 8bn ownership in SpaceX wasn’t enuf for his appetite.
The butchery performed today has cut deeper thru families and those holding Visas. Shylock was a character in Shakespeare play, Charlie is embodiment of that character who has extracted more than his pound of flesh.

@b6 guesstimate by a few people is that 30% was let go. Approximately 450 employees.

Charlie hired a consultant who ran algorithms on people so it’s kind of random but not really. But this time, the guts are so across the board vertically that for sure Hughes is now set to implode and fail.

If you haven’t yet, empty your portfolio from Exhostar shares. It is falling because many of us laid off already did it.

@at sorry to disappoint you buddy. But his tens of billions are safe in EchoStar Capital which has nothing to do with the failing stock of EchoStar. He’s laughing all the way to the bank. This is pure evil.

Senior and top executives at Hughes mostly gone. Many of us got the 9AM, the 10AM, the 11AM, the 12AM.

People are told they can leave now (which I did around noon) or stay a few days to help out to transition.

I feel bad for the visa holders because it seems many of them are sticking around for another week to help transition their work which they aren’t required too. But dangling the promise of cooperation on their visa related tasks, they’re being given the false impression that they have to if they want Hughes to cooperate w their visas.
