Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I'm so over this

I try to teach the newbies the ropes, but they're on their phones or walking off mid-explanation. Maybe I'm just old-school, but I thought you were supposed to actually learn the job once you join a company. Isn't that the minimum requirement? What's their game plan here?

maybe what you were trying to show them was a waste of their time lol. since you seem to be near retirement age, here's what you should probably learn about the younger talent: we've realized there's no loyalty, no future, and absolutely no point in investing. if there's anything leadership can communicate well, it's that. so while the company is focused on cost cutting and using us to offshore 90% of our jobs, we're focused on getting the fu-k out.

I feel like this would all go away if everyone just started worshiping Satan. Clearly it’s working for executives. Maybe I’ll find a local temple and try it out. I understand they’re a non-judgmental bunch.

@c5 They’re gonna cut the cantankerous old ge---r making $200k/year to slap-off on Zoom while he pretends to be some kind of technical expert.

After few years, they’ll cut the younger person too, probably around the time they get good at the job and can ask for a higher salary.

My recent experience with someone young & wildly unqualified for their role. We were in a quarterly review with the business line, reporting progress on "high priority" items. This person was called on to report their progress on a line item (on which they've supposed to have been working since beginning of the year). They reported that since they didn't understand what the project was, they'd deleted it from the list. So that's a new approach! I don't understand the priority project I'm supposed to be working on, so I'll not ask anyone for help, I'll just delete it! Problem solved!!! Very efficient.

When were you under the impression that they need your "help".

@OP Leave them. be. When it comes time to cut, it's an easy and guilt free decision.

@OP maybe time for you to retire, probably will soon have forced retirement. TBH doesn't sound you're very good at your job.

@OP Maybe you’re bad at teaching and communication?

Also, they’ve probably figured out some shortcuts and workarounds that you wouldn’t care about or want to use. My experience with younger/new employees is that they’re adaptable, eager to learn, and lots of times have something to teach.

Maybe Exxon needs to do more to attract better talent.

Perhaps they don't give a flying fu-k about lining the bloated pockets of senior "leadership".

@a2 More likely scenario is that OP is blamed for the failure and put in NSI.

@OP

Let them fall flat on their faces and learn the hard way. Hopefully they are in your ranking group and will fall victim to the ranking purge.

If they want your help they will ask.
