Ansys still has departments that overlap with Synopsys—such as back-office and marketing—but does anyone know what process will be used to integrate them and lay off current employees?
Also, given that there have been multiple rounds of layoffs, does the company still have the financial capacity to pay severance packages if employees in these overlapping departments are laid off?
I was also in a duplicated department at Ansys and have already been laid off. However, only a very small number of people were laid off, and most of the staff are still there. Just wonder why no one is looking for a new job, but it seems the staff are split between those who think they won’t be laid off and those who won’t quit on their own because they want to receive a severance package. In particular, all the department managers are still there. Since they sacrificed their subordinates, they seem to think they’re in the clear now.

In my country, the departments that overlap with Synopsys are staffed almost entirely by full-time employees, many of whom are high earners. So far, almost no one has been laid off. However, since there is overlap with Synopsys and there are managers at both companies, I suspect that the managers on the Ansys side will either be laid off soon or pressured to resign.
Those duplicate departments you mention will be taken care of in due course. They are not expensive cost centers to run, and many of those working are actually contractors and have fewer job protections. With the infusion of cash from Sassine's friend Jensen, I wouldn't worry about the companies ability to pay severance in the cases they are obligated to do so.
Synopsys is like a burning oil platform at sea. Not sure how long it will collapse.
