Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Reservoir engineer

Just curious what people’s plans are. What do you think is the best exit route?
It seems that most people are just trying to get to JG3 and that’s basically the peak of their career at Shell unless they check the right box. I’m not sure if I want to climb that ladder for the sake of climbing. Not saying grass is greener on the other side, but just want to see what the options are.

Before making a transformative decision. What does Shell look like 2, 5, 7 , and 10 years out. It’s certain that Wael and team will be whipsawed by internal and external pressures. Expecting several classic Shell re-orgs with catchy names that are dragnets and will displace performers and non performers alike. You can even hear the chorus of Shell adherents waiting for the next sacrificial corporate exercise. With that being said…the real market conditions right now are terrible for Petro-techs…this is due to lots of factors…one being that no one is jumping ship and the consolidation has jettisoned hundreds of great talented professionals…

@ea just to let you know that I discovered that over O&G companies value technical expertise and it is easier to get a JG3 going external. Now if you have been with Shell for over 10y, it may be hard to make the jump but it can be greener on the other side.

JG3 and coast is clearly the play

nothing else if worth the effort to value ratio anymore unless you can DEI your way in for free. many do.

the wall is at JG4 and if you want this climb it you have some real work to do internally and some factor of d-mb luck because you work always get a task that will get enough visibility to pull it off. only you can know if 4 to 3 is worth it versus going external

Execute your world class technical development , build your solid JG4 experience base and then make a choice. You’ll never know if your choice is right or wrong because you can’t live your life like a Monte Carlo sim. You’ll never should just commit to what you choose and make that the best you can. No sense in obsessing over should coulda woulda
