Intel is cutting billions in costs amid a downturn in sales, but the show must go on, so the x86 giant is hoping it can rekindle interest in the PC market with the first 24-core chips for laptops and more affordable desktop CPUs.

I love to geek out on my PC builds and notebook purchases... but to be totally honest there are very few workloads that would required the 'average' home or corporate user to need more then 4-6 cores with great single thread performance (sans gaming but this isn't a big market). We have simply hit the point where a) processors already have way more power then we need, b) the difference between what you can buy today vs. four years ago isn't so much and c) Intel doesn't have any kind of material performance advantage (and arguable is behind now... ).
For these reasons, Intel revenue growth will remain weak, Intel margins will continue to compress and there simply won't be enough profit to fund all the employees or the 'moonshot' activities of building fabs for capacity that Intel can't fill and customers are unlikely to care about.
I wondet how does it compare to the AMD 7xxx 3D chips recently released. It's a great time for pro users with all these powerful products from Apple, Intel, and AMD. I'm looking forward to my next upgrade, from any one of them.
24 cores...i guess only dummies create and buy that trash lol
Compare to a Mac Studio or MacBook Pro connected to an external monitor.
This 24 core chip will throttle big time if not supplied with wall power and the battery will drain after 2 hours.
I purchased a 13600k for a PC build for my wife. Since then, she has not touched her laptop once. By setting the power limit, the PC produces no audible noise. It is one of my best purchases. I am buying another 13gen for myself.
My five year old laptop works pretty well surfing the web, my USB HDD with 2TB has all the storage I need.
Everyone in family uses their laptop till it breaks.
Funny 15 years ago we’d upgrade every two years we RD or more out laptops like tick tock clock work, who cares about their PC.

Do most people need 24 cores in a laptop? This isn't innovation, it is the same old thing rehashed. 13th generation and that is just of the Core processors don't forget to include all of the Pentium variants and the processors x86 was named after 8086, 80286, 80386, 80486... x86 has been around since the 1980s. Tell us about the new innovative architecture that will revolutionize computing. There isn't one yet. Intel is still fighting the clock speed and core count battles that were issues at the turn of the century. Something truly new is what Intel needs to break out and become a leader in processing technology again. Processors are a commodity product now. Lots of viable options to choose from and they all get the job done.
More lies, fake news, and propaganda from Intel to distract from the real dire situation at the company. Just another shiny object, typical Intel strategy when the going gets tough.
