Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Calling brave and informed LEADERS

Since this platform is anonymous, are any people leaders willing to share what they know? Just give us what you can without exposing yourself.
How many need to accept VSP to prevent layoffs? Will layoffs hit all business lines?
Seeing post after post about closed-mouthed leaders only adds to the anxiety and frustration.
My direct leader offered some words of encouragement but not much else. Her leader, who usually has lots to say about everything has said nothing worth hearing, just the usual emotionally void attitude and gas lighting us to accept all this as normal.
Leadership is playing numbers games, but these are people's livelihoods. We deserve transparency.

@cy our PL mgr said they are going to approve. Who knows though. The waiting is excruciating. Counting down the days.

I heard from a VP that they get to make the last decision; not sure how truthful that was but that VP made it seem to us that they called the shots as to would be approved for VSP or not. I think some leadership knows information but I also know they're trying to contain it. It'll come to light soon.

@ba are you saying that phco/case management is being cut more?

Subsidiary VP here. Some visibility into reduction in force planning, no visibility into VSP at all.

For reduction in force, I've heard that most, but not all, departments were given "savings" targets a month or so ago. Across all health plans, subsidiaries, shared services, and corporate. Word is that it typically ranged from 5-15%, with a lot of variety, and current staffing levels, membership, and admin costs were considered. The target is a dollar amount and both reduction-in-force and cost savings contribute toward it. The targets can vary a lot even within the same company. If your department grew a lot during pandemic as membership increased, but never shrunk back down after redetermination... the target is probably on the higher end.

PHCO / Case Mgmt. seems to be on a separate path, and is truly being restructured (other depts. are being cut & could need to reorganize to absorb the cuts, but for them restructuring is a side-effect not the goal). A national consulting firm has been working with a lot (all?) PHCO/CM departments for a few months. Don't know details about it, though. I've always heard that it's usually pretty easy for nurses to find jobs; I hope that's true.

I haven't heard of anyone getting any actual information about VSP other than the stuff everyone got, not even our CEO. My guess is that VSP people will partially offset whatever the savings target was. But it seems like it's only a very small group in the loop about VSP.

Hope this helps.

I am a mid level people leader and just like all other employees not fully aware of the numbers, and next steps after the VSP wave. In calling the VSP number to obtain information and a good understanding of the program and the protections for employees has not merited any information outside of the resources provided. Corporate is keeping that information very close to their chest. The best anyone can do at this point is what is best for them and their families, educate yourself on the situation, research everything, and prepare. Hopefully it will not be as bad as everyone thinks, but I agree that the lack of transparency is causing undue stress and anxiety in all departments across the entire company and in all states.

VP here. We truly don’t know anything more than you do. I’m sure there are SOME people who do, but from what I can tell, it’s been held to a very tight team. My guess is beyond ELT, a handful on “Mission Control” and not many others. Earnings call on 7/28 will likely provide the rest of us with at least some hints.

@af People are human and they talk. There is no gag order issued. I think most genuinely don’t know. However I believe there is writing on the wall for some.

Some departments have already experienced major layoffs. They may/may not be hit again.

Some departments have stated they know they are not meeting metrics.

Some people have said they have seen their work dissipate over the last couple months.

No one will get the answers they need here to make their decisions however we are all in this together.

But let’s not act like people don’t talk and share things they probably have been asked not to. Take everything with a grain of salt.

You won't hear anything, there is a VERY VERY strict script they must follow to the letter, down to the pauses and timing of any messages.

Passing on any information would be akin to insider trading or selling corporate secrets to a competitor.

If you hear anything from a "friend" it is misinformation, no matter how close you are to that person.

@ac I think it's important to remember that we have roughly a 60K workforce.

not everyone is plugged in enough to even know about this site.

I didn't think we would meet the quota based on some of the offers people shared on here. I think they are prioritizing flattening the organization over purging a lot of individual contributors. a lot of IC will still be cut, but I see the cost savings coming from removing levels of management.

why is a Sr. Dir. reporting to a VP and they only have one report? ixnay the Sr. Dir. they aren't needed.

@a6
I am surprised to hear that based on how many people on here are taking it maybe people are still deciding and waiting until the last day.

It’s very unlikely anyone with this information is on this website and if they are they’re at least smart enough not to leak that kind of information.

I'm not in a leadership role, but our team has not heard anything from anyone. Total BS.

I am not a PL either but I heard that so far they haven't met the quota yet with the number of VSP applications submitted so far. My PL is guessing that they are looking to cut around 10% of the workforce.

I am not a PL, but I am also dying to know what they know. My PL has been tight lipped and the director - who usually talks a lot - has offered no input. They just say - its good to have updated Resume's and not to make any big purchases right now.
