Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lack of clarity on layoffs

The lack of clarity on layoffs till date is bewildering. People already jumping ship, those left behind are seeing terrible drop in perf and morale. This slow poison of "your a-- is next to fall" is the last thing one could do in troubled times

I always thought the reason they got rid of rankings was because they could then fire whoever they want.

They are probably dragging it out to hope people quit without having to pay severance. Maybe drag it out and try to fire people in other ways to avoid severance. But if a person stays then they get what they deserve. This is the oddest longest drawn out 'layoff' I've ever seen.

Classic intel, actually. They always seek to maximize discomfort for a while before a layoff to see how many folks leave on their own. Saves them face and severance costs. Then they cut heads to meet whatever goal.

Do you think Intel can fill the fabs in Ohio, that is a lot of spending, some one going to pay for it with their jobs?

Do you think the Az expansion as well is Ireland and Israel and NM will be filled as x86 demand collapses with the recession and AMD launches superior products?

I smell big layoffs!

Even if there was clarity you simply cannot believe what anyone tells you. Plans and schedules might change, people will lie to your face, and some manager or bean counter might change their mind later on.

Trust your instincts, not what people tell you.

It's your a--, if you are worried you should be applying for other jobs and preparing to protect your livelihood. After the Q3 earnings announcement you should have updated your resume and gotten it out there. Do you really want to live with this anxiety for the next few years? This is round 1 of a heavy weight fight. Unless you are sure you can win you should be planning your exit on your terms. Otherwise you will just take a beating in each subsequent round until you are knocked out. The ultimate goal of $10 billion in savings per year won't be all head count but head count will be a substantial portion.

That is HR's strategy not give any clarity or obvious filters used in the latest rounds of layoff. Hats off to CP did a great job hiding the criteria and at the same time giving BUs flexibility to trim their deadwood and manage to a reduced budget.
The last two SET & ACT gave away the criteria. Not this time.

The people responsible for ranking you have some idea. Gotta toot your ho-n suck up to the right people, and look busy enough to the monitoring spyware which records way more than you probably think. Otherwise you're another guy sitting his fat derriere at a desk. If you know your group is sucking wind, you should have plotted your way out of it one way or another. Others have already read the tea leaves and have done what needs doing. You even say you know this but have chosen not to be proactive.
