Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

I'm hoping there are layoffs this week

I'm so over feeling overwhelming dread every Sunday. Give me severance and I'll happily leave. Even being unemployed would be better for my mental health than this constant torture.

@s1 incorrect! I retired a year early because my job was ki-ling me. Physically (not finding time to work out) socially (not able to hit Happy Hour or Thursday night sailing) emotionally (depressed) interpersonally (devoting time to a relationship). I was fortunately in a good spot financially after 35years of scrupulous and successful investment (thanks NVDA and Micron). But even if my situation was more tenuous it would have been one of the best decisions of my life.

@s1 Money isn't everything and stability is a mindset. Your mental health is worth more than all the money in the world. You sound like you live in fear. Staying in a job that's harmful to your mental health and well being out of fear is like being in a bad relationship. Every day you stay in that relationship is another day you are cheating yourself of being in in a healthy and happy place. Sometimes healthy doesn't mean the same job at a different company. Re-invent yourself. Challenge yourself to do something that helps people. Financially re-position yourself so you aren't a slave to money and continually taking abuse to support a lifestyle you created.

@OP you’re not the only one. What’s your dept? Everyone on my team feels this exact same way

It saddens me that so many people would rather lose their jobs with stability to enter the worse job market most have ever seen. No one can convince you otherwise but just be mindful that it’s taking people a year or more to find a similar role and salary. Make the best out of your job now. I promise it’s better than losing everything you have worked for just to be in a worse position this time next year

@kq there is also a choice to leave voluntarily. In this economy despite everything we should be thankful of being employed

Citi is stillbetter than JPM, GOL,BoA and every foreign bank in the City. We are all here for different reasons. Some work hard at Citi, make a career or simply hope to keep their jobs despite the trend. Others ready to call it a day, move on, retire whatever and there is cash on the table. Balance. And hint, nobody is going to help you, take charge like me, be useless. (nobody noticed yet)

@d2 what is wrong with you? can't you respect that there are also plenty of people who need a break from the toxicity of Citi.

Be careful what you wish for. Job market is ridiculous. 5 months out after Rif'd and still nothing.

Here's to hoping you get your wish in this rough, tough economy!

Well. There are plenty of laid off unemployed folks out there who would value the regular paycheck you're receiving a whole lot more than you apparently do, and you seem to be able and willing to live without it, so please GTFO, no need to wait, just go if you can be so flippant about making a living in this job market.

Nobody cares about their jobs anymore. Useless upper management sits idle handing out pink slips, no guidance, no advice, nothing, only doing what they’re told . Meanwhile employees scramble to do the bare minimum to keep their jobs knowing tomorrow could be their turn. Can’t trust anyone. Town halls are as bad as they can get. A dog and pony show patting themselves in the back and talking grandeur while Citi is crumbling. People no longer uphold Citi as an outstanding and trustworthy company. Its technology and its efforts to become the leader in the financial industry have come and gone. It’s a matter of time before Citi dwindles to almost nothing. The only glue is their credit card portfolio, we’ve become another Capital One. What’s in your wallet!

It looks like you have never been unemployed, especially in a bad market where getting a new job could take many months.

The way they are doing these layoffs is inhumane. I rather they would just do it in set waves than this slow drip torture chamber. I am also getting to the point where I don’t even care any more. I do the minimum and if I do get laid off, oh well, their loss. No big deal getting laid off from $hitibank

My manager knows that I want to go. They directed me to send HR an email letting them know that should they ever be looking for volunteers or there is a RIF in the role that I have, I’d be willing to be chosen along with receiving the accompanying severance.

I did so and got a two word reply back, “good luck”. Since then there’s been two rounds of people being let go and here I sit, waiting.

RIF? I put in minimal effort to do the jobs adequately and got great, keep up the good work mid-year review. 388 is full of mindless bots, they didn't even notice I checked out in December. Nice tan, on a Friday? I sit outside of 388 a lot. MD and HR gal walked by, I said hi and giggled. Nothing....

Well said, RIF me please! I usually sign on to Citi by now, around 7AM via Omnissa Horizen but I'm looking for hope here first. Let this be the week they RIF me. I'll be useless, rude, make typo errs and ignore clients all day as I wait. Citi, 388 is dreadful. Thanks for listening folks!
