Advisors

Is “Advisor” the new Exxon retirement plan?

Every week I see another Advisor, Advanced Advisor, Senior Advisor, Expert Advisor, Strategy Advisor, Effectiveness Advisor, Change Advisor, etc.

At what point does a company have more advisors than people actually doing the work?

Asking for the engineers, technicians, operators, and researchers who are somehow expected to absorb the workload every reorg.

Advisor roles are the Pastures where managers past their prime are sent. XOM’s advancement model is very similar to the US military’s “up or out” model when it comes to promotions, but here it’s “up or advisor”.

We are approaching advisor singularity, where every employee is assigned three advisors and no actual work is observed directly.

How many advisors does it take to sc--w in a lightbulb?

Some of the advisors have little qualification on the subject they are advising on. I suspect it is a placeholder.

Is there a lunch advisor at campus ? Sometimes I struggle with picking what do I want for lunch, would be nice to see a daily PowerPoint for this matter.

@b1 yes! the amount of "architects" have exploded over the past few years...we're told they will go ahead and help clear a path/find the solutions for us...but all they really do is show us a half baked workflow diagram they probably hastily put together that doesn't even work in the real world.

Advisor position can be a holding spot for a Sponsored person while waiting to take over a real job from someone and take credit for their success.

Advisor role for someone over 55 is simply a holding spot which has not glory and they will receive a NSI ranking and exit within no more than 2 years.

Advisor is a meaningless title applied to mid career people for the sole purpose of spoiling their CV to prevent them from moving to a better job at another employer.

@OP Yet another high-level position for someone to meet with and talk to other high-level people. It's always the people responsible for strategy spend exactly zero time talking to people actually doing the work. They meet with each other, review presentations from each other, and advise each other. Meanwhile, the people running the systems, fixing the problems, and carrying the workload never get asked what they think.
