Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Anyone still happy here?

Does anyone actually enjoy working here anymore? I used to like my job but now it's not worth it. The pay is not keeping up and management is even worse. Don't even get me started on all the cuts.

@k6 nice try... signing up for social security at the earliest date of 62yo has restrictions for working. For every $2 of income from working above $24,480 (for 2026) reduces you SS benefit by a dollar. Someone in high tech would run the benefit to zero in no time. The only thing they did was lock themselves into a much lower monthly benefit for the rest of their life. You can't work and collect SS without a penalty until you reach your full retirement age and that would be 67 for someone who is in their late 50s now. Good luck staying employed at Oracle until you are 67.

Definitely concerned. I am on data platform side and keep hearing Oracle expects the hyper scalers to sell the db@ service as they go all in on OCI.

@k6 'I've been talking to some folks in that age bracket and older who were let go by O and that's what some of them wish THEY had done. Too late now. :(' - think so? I beg to differ...

A lot of us geezers with 20+ years at Oracle that were let go did use every retirement option we could and as a result are doing just fine thank you!

My portfolio returns more than my salary ever did and have a couple of years of emergency/FU money just in case and my salary was not high at all... Just didnt buy stupid sh-t to impress people I dont give a sh-t about....The Joneses are usually broke

Pay yourself first, spend less than whats left over and invest the remainder. Do this for a long time and enjoy your later years without stressing about money.

@k6 if people had been doing this (saving and investing) for their work lives rather than buying stupid sh-t they would be in a much better position. Sadly the median retirement savings is a paltry $87k in the US and too many use debt to keep up their lifestyle

@jy Save save save as much of your salary as you can spare into your 401k. If you're still there, as soon as you're old enough to get Social Security (I'm assuming you're in the US, apologies if you're not), sign up for it! Then increase your 401k withholding accordingly.

I've been talking to some folks in that age bracket and older who were let go by O and that's what some of them wish THEY had done. Too late now. :(

I hate every second of it here. But I am in my late 50’s and live in a place where there is really no other employment opportunities and I work from home. Some people are just trapped in this and can’t get out.

@gt saying sales or gbus are toxic is like saying water is wet. You get people in those units that think they’re untouchable…especially if some mgmt nut backs them. I worked with a person who I swear didn’t do any tangible necessary work for 20 years yet survived 3 rounds of layoffs. Her husband works on the tech side and I sometimes felt he helped her but not sure how. She was useless.

@fz that's just sad... If you live a long life you might be here for 80 or so years and you are just existing? What a waste. Unfortunately, you aren't alone.

Not sure about the other GBUs but the Netsuite gbu product management org is pretty toxic.

Everyone is concerned they are going to get laid off in the next round. Sales can’t sell and it’s well known that the business strategy is to sell software without sales people. If product is scared/cant deliver and your sales team can’t sell. Is that a recipe for success? 🤔

You joined Netsuite because of the people and their passion. No one wants to be here anymore…

It's a job not a lifestyle. Do your 8 hours and then go live your life. How happy is your job supposed to make you?

Haven’t been happy for a while and just waiting for bunch of RSU to vest in Sept. SKO was a cluster, and all these linked-in posts about momentum, excitement, etc is a joke. Most of people I talked to are not happy, concerned about layoffs, overworked and definitely not happy with their managers. Definitely not a company I (or many) want to work for long term!

there are a number of us in exec support at Oracle that have been here for a pretty long time and we are amazed how things have gotten. If we didnt need the job we'd be gone, we have been looking but the market is tough. Our former manager Joel was let go (didnt deserve it but was a scapegoat) and it took him over a year to find a new gig at Visa. He had an impeccable history supporting the C suite but politics...

There are several people waiting for their RSUs to vest in the fall and then they are out. (Me too by the way)

@az that was my experience there or 15 years but I was in a GBU and could’ve just been the trash we had before Oracle and the trash we acquired. Such a circus

OP, it far from the bottom. There is plenty of downside coming. You will look back at this post and wish you still had it so good.

The worst part is how people are treating each other. I've never seen so much backstabbing, lying, and verbal abuse in a professional setting.

Worked there 15 years in one of the GBU’s. It was the worst mistake of my life. Easily the worst people I’ve ever come across and mgmt that I think would rival sweatshops. I can say the mgmt better hide for the rest of their lives. People aren’t playing games.

With this new Codex era, it's the most exciting time in my career, I have never seen such radical transformation and all routing sh-t-tier work fully automated.
So yeah, I enjoy it very much.
