Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Any updates?

Is anyone else curious if parts of the company are being sold? It has been hush hush from senior leaders. I am actively looking, but unfortunately many companies aren't hiring due to downturn in economy.

A partnership with Twitter makes sense. Learners want “bite sized” pieces of content in the right now.

A partnership with Twitter? Hmmmm...Elon Musk can send us to space to find more students. BUT the overall concept means that everything will be automated and we will not be needed. We are already seeing job cuts and position eliminations as well as site closures. How much more will they make us experience? If you are in POLS, the partners are decreasing and the Town Hall the other day with ST let us know that the number of students in the future will continue to decrease because students do not want a traditional degree anymore and a couple of the top programs are non-traditional programs where you can complete any number of classes in a term for the same amount (that sounds amazing if you are a go-getter). Honestly, I have tens of thousands in student loan debt, maybe the new generation has the right idea.

Guess I will wait and see what AB shares next week with his "Around the World" meeting. And then determine how fast to jump ship.

Didn’t even know there was a town hall today

What did they say at the town hall?

After our POLS town hall today, there are clear indicators that we need to jump ship asap. We are being replaced by automation if the buyers do not decide to get rid of us first!

Elon Musk fired 75 percent of the employees at Twitter. It still operates. This will be the new normal. Get used to it.

The leadership isn't clueless ( arrogant , yes).
They have been slowly landing this piece of software for the last 5/6 years.
Apply at cognizant, globallogic, or whatever - one of them is going to own you.

The interesting thing about the Iowa layoff article is that it reports Pearson cut their workforce by almost 4k employees from 2018 to 2021. All because these so called leaders are clueless yet arrogant. Good thing a disney character was hired to save this place. More downsizing to come in the very near future. BTW, any word on the Spice Girl entertainment program that was supposed to be a big hit. I guess this place will continue to be a "wannabe" player in this industry.

So they laid off 50 people in Iowa City and closed some local POLS offices in Arizona and Illinois. Toronto offices are rented. What is next? Can leadership share honestly what to expect? Wait! Who am I kidding! Honesty from leadership...nevermind!
