If you want money today, be a manager. If you want skills for when Intel finally spits you out or you get smart and leave, be an IC, a doer. You will have something to offer on your resume beside PPT.

Definitely IC.

With a failing organization like Intel, the term “Intel manager” seems synonymous with failure. Perhaps being a primary resource or point of contact for a work group/team as an IC is a superior choice to an “Intel manager”

Managing employees who require management sucks. Glorified babysitting. Ugh.

Leading employees … that’s great. Folks that just need to be pointed in the right direction, given some guardrails and coaching… so rewarding.

Being an IC working for a leader? Super yeah. Love accomplishing things on my own as much as through people.

Being an IC working for a manager? Sc--w that.

Been both. TBH, I used to enjoy leading but not anymore. Employees today don't work as hard and believe themselves to be entitled. I like the employees that continually learn, improve their skills and look for ways to contribute to the success of the company. Just my experience over a long period of time and multiple companies including Intel.
