Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Here We Go Again

Happy New Year! NOT looking forward to starting work in 2023...wondering if I'll suddenly be in the "new" bottom 15% after this next wave.

Based on the last comment these are secret meetings for management to fire those that they have a slight against. It males sense now after 3 years of this nonsense and seeing so many leave at the beginning and middle of year. They were forced to leave because the work and people have become untenable and grotesque.

Capital One will never allow transparency into the Cross Calibration sessions. There a reasons why they are held in secret, paper taped over doors and windows, checking carefully to see who has called in to the sessions/whose on the lines, etc. Its an extremely arbitrary process where benchmarks for performance are not created at the start of the year, but randomly created during the sessions at the end of the year. Its a horrid process, especially if you are a people manager as you are often told what rating to give your persons, but that you as the manager have to "own" the rating, and not tell anyone that you were told, to assign a specific rating.

I hope the tough guy/gal who told everybody to quit crying was one of the first to be notified their job went away! They probably have their nose so far up in a dark place they may be spared unless they are on an agile team or another where even kissing a lot of behind will not save them. We call that karma.

The bottom 15% is real and that’s how they will get around some layoffs by getting folks, even long time good performers, down there. Then you’re screwed bc you get a wayyyy smaller package than if you’re laid off

How does it go down? My account is locked the only thing I can do is come here and ask if I'm not the only one.

If you are not a part of the Richmond Mafia, you are doomed.
Hope you get a large severance, take a break, then work somewhere where you are valued.

Same here I dreaded work today because when I was off I had PTSD thinking about the last year. Calibrations is one of the reasons I'm stressed. Forced ranking has turned into a witch hunt almost

The bigger problem is how people end up in that "new" 15% bottom. From my experience, it almost certainly is not actual job performance. I think they should let everybody in to witness the cross calibrations so they can see firsthand how their actual rating is determined. That would be a real eye opener and send many for the doors.
