Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

It’s rough going into NY.

A lot of our groups will not notify cpm until 1/15. Not really able to plan vacations or other things not knowing if we will be employed.

Given the negative vibe with the WIP layoffs, I wonder if many people are "Quiet Quitting" at Intel. Especially those who are haven't been notified yet if they are going to get cut and haven't explicitly been told they are "safe" from further job cuts.

I am actually surprised at how Intel has handled this so far. I expected mass layoffs right after the Q3 earnings announcement when they set aside over $600 million for separations. Instead they have only had limited layoffs so far and let the majority of people work through the holidays and into the New Year. Most companies don't do much hiring in Q4 especially late Q4 so Intel gave everyone a boost on top of the separation packages. If you are worried about your job you should have gotten your resume polished up and started getting it out to prospective companies as soon as Intel hinted at cut backs. Big tech is great to work for when times are good but they cut people first when times get bad (meta, twitter, amazon, the list goes on...). There is no way Intel can make the cost cutting projections they have announced without substantially reducing headcount. The reductions will probably go on for at least the next 2 years to get to the $10 billion in annual savings PG promised investors. Maybe dial back your life and work for less money at a more stable company/industry in a lower cost of living location. Life really is more than accumulating wealth and material possessions that you don't really need.

Why not just plan as if you will be kept?
If you are then all good.
If not just discuss planned holidays with new employer whenever it happens.
Life still goes on post layoff, just changes a bit. Don't sweat it. 👍
