Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Any example of severance not being paid?

I was laid off in April and I did something stupid! My network connection was not cut immediately and I e mailed my resume, my reviews and also some reports I used to produce to my home e mail. The purpose was to prepare myself to interviews.
Now somebody from CSIS e mailed me to talk regarding this…

Now- is there any example of severance not being paid due to this? I will have a zoom call with them to explain, but should I start looking for a lawyer in case they do not pay my severance? Would Citi go to the hassle of lawyers for a situation like this?
Pls ease my mind…
Thank you

@as Nothing he did falls in a gray area. Citi IS and email policy is crystal clear which each and every employee signs/acknowledges annually. This person violated at least 2 policies - both violations are ground for immediate termination (I've seen it a dozen times).
If CSIS is involved it means it was determined to be a real incident where Citi data was exfiltrated. This guy is cooked and has no ground to stand on - he violated the terms of his sev agreement (if he signed it) and Citi will most likely rescend the severance (on grounds.)

@OP lawsuit for what? Citi doesn't have to pay you a severance package. If you already signed the paperwork and returned it to HR then you clearly did not read everything you were signing. You said you sent "reports" which means you're probably cooked because even high performers get axed all the time for violating the Citi data protection and external email policies. I'm of the opinion that you were most likely sending Citi data to yourself via email to have it for your use after being cut. CSIS doesn't schedule interrogations for anything short of an actual SIRT/real issue. To add to your already sweating hands - a SIRT doesn't get opened unless there is actual observed/confirmed Citi data leakage.
So, if CSIS wants to talk to you - it is serious. oof.

The OP's resume, performance reviews, paying stubs, tax documents and other personal, private documents are co-owned by Both the employee and Citi.

Even so, talk to an Employee-side Employment lawyer.

@OP translation: I took company property and emailed it to myself, in violation of policies that I took training on and attested to understanding, and I got caught now I’m scared. There I fixed your post for you.

@OP

It's everyone's Constitutional Right to retain a Lawyer.

NO ONE can order you or tell you that you can not or are not permitted to get a Lawyer.

If you want to hire and pay a Lawyer to advise you what you should eat for breakfast, that's Your Fvcken business and Constitutional Right !

There are thousands of Employee-side lawyers that will take your case on contingency fee especially against a deep-pocketed well-known company like Citi.

This brings up a good question - when they say for you to “document everything” if you’re going to take legal action, how are you supposed to get all the stuff off of the computer and into your possession?

Just to be clear the reports are the issue, as that can be considered Citi IP. You can’t take anything you worked on while a Citi employee, those belong to citi.

Your resume and performance recaps, are considered yours, similar to you emailing yourself your paystub. Those are not the problem here.

See what CSIS has to say, and then consult an attorney before admitting or signing anything.

If Citi does Not pay your severance in full, go directly to an Employee-side Employment Lawyer.

What you did falls in a gray area. Your resume, personal files, performance reviews etc. contain and include personal and private information about you.

You're the owner of the above even though Citi is also an owner.

Be aware, CSIS will try to dissuade you from contacting or retaining your own Lawyer. Do NOT fall for this BullSh!t trick.

They're doing this to protect and defend Citi, NOT you, NOT the employees.

Do you really believe or think Citi hasn't already or will confer with their own internal lawyers in the Legal Dept.?? If yes, you're a bigger Fool 🤡 than you realize.

He who pays the Lawyer, controls the Lawyer.

Even a resume of your own is Citi property if its on the server. No lawyer needed. You sign to agree to tgis in your employment contract, when you do training, and as part of the severance agreement. you may have gotten out it if it was just a resume but come on.... you sent yourself a template 🤣

The reports are considered citi property, so they could make a big deal out of it and fire you for cause, which would impact your severance. Though usually if that was going to happen, HR would be in the room. More likely they will make you sign an affidavit attesting that you deleted the files as a condition of the severance being released. Resume and perf reviews are no big deal.
