I’m hoping for some honest feedback. I recently applied for a role in the Retail IT department at Walgreens, but I walked away with a really bad feeling about the hiring director and the overall environment. I’m wondering if pursuing this opportunity might be a mistake.

If you need the job, take it, but don't leave another job for it, and don't get complacent in your job search. They just laid off 1200 people, MANY of them with seniority in tech branches (high earners), so almost every corporate line of business is limping and licking their wounds.
Do NOT take a corporate job at Walgreens! It is the most toxic, miserable environment I've ever experienced!! And they will eventually lay you off.
PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!
Please run away if you have other choices. Super toxic environment in most of the teams (i am an auditor). Management is rude, incompetent and inefficient, but nobody cares. They will belittle all your hard work during annual performance review, no matter how good you are, to justify no raise and no bonus, so the can take it all. Run...
@qv Serious question. Is there a plan to update/improve/replace the pharmacy application we use in Centralized Services? With each new update, functionality and reliability continue to deteriorate. Prescriptions don't process yet we're told to assume they do and move on to the next call. I'm sure that makes for interesting conversations when the caller goes to pharmacy only to find their order was never received or filled.
Recommend Digital and Pharmacy IT. Retail IT isn't a place I'd recommend. The leadership culture is weak, the focus is entirely on short-term financials, and there's little to no opportunity for development.
Why is our store program called bean store?
I don't work in IT but from my experience, Walgreen's culture is indeed toxic and was just as bad before Sycamore took over. Not much difference. There may be more cost-cutting under our new owners though.
Full disclosure lost my job in February. Stay away from walgreens. Private equity always cuts, always rounds of layoff. Toxic environment. If you have no job why not income. If you do or have another offer, take the other. I just realized how more relaxed I am since I stopped working there. How my blood pressure is lower
