Thread regarding Blackbaud Inc. layoffs

Termed after 3.5 years

Got termed despite 3+ years of good performance, two promotions over the years.  In an effort to "be transparent" I openly shared my concerns with the strategic direction of the company and decision making by senior leadership.  Yes I also shared that i was looking for new employment as many of you are I am sure with Blackbaud's tanking stock price. My termination was how they responded.

If any lesson is learned from this it's "DON'T be transparent" because this is where it gets you. And also, BB has eyes and are actively searching for people expressing any sort of dissatisfaction with Blackbaud. I will hopefully have a new job lined up soon but wanted to share this information as they offered a pitiful "two weeks" severance in lieu of my silence.
But don't worry AI will fix everything. Company is a sinking ship and would advise folks to get out while they can.

The shock hits that you’ve lost a job but on the positive side I think most people are finding work quicker than anticipated. I was part of the most recent layoff in April (after 9 years) and I wound up with 3 offers in a the first month. 2 of which were comparable to BB (read as underpaid) and the 3rd 20k more with less costly insurance. Regarding engineering at least, I’ve found that companies are hiring more SREs and SWEs than what we’ve been hearing.

Anyway, you’re not alone.

That‘s brutal, and sorry you lost your job at the baud

Remember:

  1. Companies are not loyal, which means amazing performance does not equate value. You are seen as a cost.
  2. Constructive feedback towards senior leadership nearly always falls on deaf ears. They will feel threatened, and hate to be challenged.
  3. Don‘t tell anyone you‘re looking for other jobs.

Best of luck in the job search!

Sorry that this happened to you and good luck with the job hunting. Was your less than positive feedback provided through the not-so-anonymous internal survey?
