Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Losing strong employees

I have seen several capable coworkers leave over the past year and it rarely had anything to do with the work itself. Most of the frustration came from how people were spoken to or ignored by management. After a while employees stop feeling valued and start looking elsewhere. It is becoming a pattern that more people are noticing. Exxon is losing good workers it should be trying to keep.

The hidden organization is crumbling away, the bench strength that meant colleagues filled the gaps when they appeared is no longer there. What's falling between the gaps? Nobody knows until the s**t hits the fan. I guess the Execs will paper over the cracks until they can't any longer....

@aq well said, I can only add that it’s a hunger games principle. Btw I recommend this movie to the new hires to see how you can survive at any big corporation.

EM not worried about losing HiPos. An entire team of external executive recruiters is busy making plans to fill any Executive position with external hires.

Got to gut it out I’m almost there. Shameful how these people work. Folks could have better but hiring friends or friends of friends has cost this company the future. The mental health of the whole place is in the drain.

what a ‘strong employee’ even means in an environment where politics overshadow performance. ExxonMobil operates like a jungle and in a jungle, survival isn’t about capability, it’s about navigating alliances, favoritism, and internal power structures. When the system rewards connections over contribution, even high‑performing employees can be positioned as weak simply because they aren’t part of the protected circle

I have seen in a few instances where HiPO's stepped on a landmine and when from top 5% to the bottom 50%. It can happen, but rarely.

The corporation is filled with toxic managers and the so called leadership. Only people who see career future in this company are toxic and incompetents like Darren.

I was there for 6 years. Was a HiPo and always got outstanding. Decided to leave because management was inhumane and I finally got some sense to look other places. I was brainwashed too long thinking XOM was the best.

I’m in a better situation now by a mile. If you’re scared, don’t be. You deserve better!

I am consistently outstanding and excellent and am actively interviewing to leave. More than -5 years with the company. Not a hipo.

I’m planning on leaving. I’m not a HiPo, but I do rank Excellent every year. I’m sure I’m not a regrettable loss in their eyes.
