Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anyone else concerned that declining sales will cause layoffs?

Ford and Lincoln in major decline, other manufacturers are not. From tge DN:

Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales declined almost 14% year-over-year in May, despite the introduction last month of employee discounted pricing for all.
The Dearborn automaker cited the discontinuation of the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair crossovers as well as reduced daily rental volumes for the decline. Without those, Ford said sales would've been down 1%, according to the company.
Cox Automotive Inc. ahead of the results was forecasting a flat May for the industry resulting from low consumer confidence and higher gas prices balanced by stock market growth and larger tax returns. With Ford discontinuing a few models and its next major vehicle launch not happening until 2027, analysts had forecast the automaker would struggle to keep pace in 2026.
The best-selling trucks in the United States, F-Series pickups and cabs, fell 13% as the company still works through limited inventory from an aluminum shortage stemming from multiple fires last fall at a supplier. The smaller Ranger fell 23%, and Maverick rose10% to a May record with its best sales month for its hybrid version. The Transit commercial van grew 4.2%, including a 22% decrease for the electric version.
Ford SUVs fell 21%, though large SUVs still are marking their best start to a year in 25 years. Explorer grew 8.8%, and Bronco rose 5.2% to a May record. But Bronco Sport dropped 8.3%, and Expedition declined 24%, though it had its best monthly retail share in six years. The electric Mustang Mach-E fell 44%. The Mustang coupe declined 1.8%.
Lincoln sales also declined 21% with all models down: Nautilus at 7.6%, Aviator at 6.1% and Navigator at 10.8%.
Ford is offering employee pricing for all through the July 4 weekend to mark the 250th anniversary of America's founding. The automaker in 2025 had a similar promotion through the summer in response to uncertainty created by new tariffs introduced by the Trump administration.
In May, Subaru Inc. reported U.S. sales were up 10%, Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.'s increased 3%, Kia Corp.'s rose11% to a monthly record and Mazda Motor Corp.'s rose 35%. General Motors Co. and Chrysler and Jeep parent Stellantis NV will report second-quarter sales in July.

Will the reduction in sales cause layoffs? Maybe. Am I concerned about that? Nope.

Mistake they are making is looking for another position within Ford. They will find themselves scrambling again soon. That's not solving to problem. The only way to do that is to leave the company.

Wrong. It has been stated on the record many times here and by the Chairman of the company, that the current Ford corporate leaders and the BOD are the best that the company has ever had in its 120+ year history. That is a statement, and why we should be confident that the company is on the correct path to even more future success than current. Be positive.

@av I highly doubt that Ford Energy will be successful. Apparently Mike Aragon has gone from delivering absolutely nothing of value at Integrated Services, after being unemployed, after trying to sell subscriptions to mirrors. Not a success in his CV.

This is only a transient event. New generation Model e products and services are on the way to launch with certain success on the horizon. New product like these are the solution. Market share will increase especially in the lucrative BEV space and new white space offerings.

No.

Layoffs are guaranteed, no matter the market share, profitability, or any other metric. The already-bloated senior "leader" compensation must increase and we are but sacrificial lambs.

Ford seems to have given up its dreams of becoming a global company like VW or Toyota and is happy to make sales in North America and cars in Asia and Mexico. This is efficient, but has geopolitical risk (like tariffs). The dream of being a high P/E company seems to be in the past. Self-driving cars, EVs, data analytics are stalled at Ford. Most of the profits come from large vehicles whose sales are influenced by fuel prices, the price of fuel is another risk.

There is a new generation of Fords taking over, perhaps they are less progressive and can rebuild confidence in the Company through diligence and incremental change. Mere functionaries could be elevated to functionaries, or even super functionaries and work on operational excellence, vertical integration and building confidence in stakeholders.

EVs could become profitable for Ford and maybe the battery electric storage systems will work out. This area has a lot of geopolitical risk since it depends on improved trade relations with Asian countries, sustained high gas prices, continued concern about climate change, growth in data centers, etc.
