Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Keeping track of people leaving

I was trying to keep track of friends and colleagues leaving IOL. But, recently it has blown up so much that I had to stop. Sad, but it is the reality.

Imperial will probably show a large net cash positive position next quarter, but the knowledge and experience lost will never be quantified. The cost of development these talents is staggering, and now they being purged out. So very very sad.

Imperial managers smile like the Heaven's Gate cult members.
Hope the ending is not the same.

There's definitely been impacts to Ops, but the hasn't been as much turnover there as some head office functions. A lot of Commercial and Corporate type groups at QP are in absolute shambles due to the steady stream of departures, and it's only getting worse.

Yes, the business keeps going in the short term, but the company will miss significant opportunities with the forced attrition. They are losing the people they needed to keep the most.

It is the inevitable spiral downward of the modern corporation. As they hire cheaper and less effective labour and times inevitably get harder again, they will try to scramble. It will then be too late. They only think of today as they have for the last 15 years.

Morale at work is extremely low, and management clearly doesn’t care. They act like everything is fine and business as usual, even though it’s obvious things are falling apart. It’s delusional to think operations will run smoothly once all the long‑service employees they’ve nurtured and depended on for years are gone.

I am at a smaller site and surprisingly things seem OK. Definitely better than I had thought, which is kind of odd. Or maybe I am standing on a sinkhole waiting to happen? Or maybe somehow it will all work out in the end??

I honestly wonder, will we ever see some impact of of all these lost of knowledge or talents? Or it's all gonna be absorbed/diluted in the ether, and everything will just continue on.

There has been a very rapid Exxodus, and seems like the departures are continuing at a rapid pace. Very unfortunate as the company is losing most of the people that are doing the heavy lifting. The company will continue on, but it's an absolute shame and a lost opportunity to be deliberately driving away so many talented employees.

This has never been in the shareholder's interest. Shame on senior management and the spinless board of directors for going along with this.
