Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Baytown a family affair that is unfair.

I have been working at this awful place for 5 years. In those 5 years I have been ranked VG
and good. I have constantly tried to move up kiss the bosses areses. Nothing I did helped not even staying late and working extra. I am salary so I dont get OT. I noticed others moving up and getting promoted. They were promoted even though they did nothing great. I found out later they were the relatives of other supervisors. Some were not even related but just friends with the supervisors. I have an engineering degree and one of the family members was promoted to be in charge of maintenance. The family member had no degree and experience. I asked why I was not given the job and was told I had not been at exxon long enough. I have given up trying and just do my job now. I was told my productivity had dropped and I needed to step it up if I wanted to remain competitive. I will probably drop in ranking this year but I don t care anymore. Exxon is a dead end for me and I am going to leave. The bad thing is I did not learn anything beneficial at exxon. I am employed as a technologist and just did stupid monkey lab work. I learned all of exxons stupid forms and useless meetings and trainings. I have found a new job at a smaller company that will employ me as an engineer. I am planning to leave asap. BTW I got a 1.5% raise last year and was told I was lucky to get that much. Baytown is a place that the blind lead the ones can see and do. I have never met a good or talented supervisor at baytown just friends and relatives of others in power. Another friend of mine went through the same thing at emhc but it was not as bad as baytown. He told me the only way to move up up was to leave exxon.

I left too after a few years. B town was the worst placeci have ever worked at. The system is rigged and fixed. If you work harder you can barely survive. You will still only rank as good but you cannot ascend any higher unless you are in the fold. I was getting no where fast and the knives in my back were countless. There was a group of employees that ate lunch emwith the supervisor and spent the time kissing his ar-e. The employees would not even eat they would just sit there listening to the a hole supervisor give advice. I once sat at the e table and they looked at me like I was a piece of s heet. The immediately stopped talking and wanted me to leave. I did this for a few more times and was told I was bothering them. The fox and his crew were gossipers. The supervisor is part of one of the b town families.

Yes b town is the worst. I left after a few years because I knew the game. I was left out of meetings and priority work assignments. I kept getting the s heet work while others got the prime work. The friends groups at b town are the worst. They plot against others and share gossip. It was the worst place I have ever worked at. I hated every minute and person I encountered there.

Some variation of this through out. In UNCON, EMIT and so on. If your like asking yourself how did this person get that job it’s either a combo of related /friend of someone. Or this is my favorite, or in spite of the person who should be getting promoted. That happens more than you know. LT says it’s business it’s not personal. Oh it is personal. Go look at EMIT.

It's not just one family, there's at least 3-4 family clans in there.. Some got more influence and some less. They talk about meritocracy during WAEM but this is a prime example that they lie. There are also some people in charge there that were working there for couple years, then quit and came back and just kept climbing through ranks like someone attached a rocket up their arses.

Anyways, you did the right thing going to another employer, because forced ranking system is not about meritocracy, it's about saving money for the employer.
