Every week I hear about somebody new being let go. No announcement, no explanation, nothing. I've started getting near panic attacks because of it. I want to go back to the time when job security was an actual thing.

@f5 look at jobs that are secure even if they pay a lot less if you value a stable job
No need to panic about what is not in your control - Hold on to the job as long as it exists. When they do not need you anymore, they will find a way to eliminate your position. It can be a PIP or forced relocation, RTO whatever. Till then just chill and take a day at a time. In other times one would start looking for a new job when there is no security in current job, but with the cartel of employers firing people en masse, what are your chances of landing a new job where you will feel secure?
Not in Albany! Super secure jobs!
@OP The only announcements you see these days are the new interns proudly displaying the IBM swag and repeating the same message how fortunate they are to land a job with such an iconic company as IBM. Poor guys will suffer the safe fate as rest of us one day. Will they announce on LinkedIn about the PIP just like they are making announcements of their hiring today - Time will tell.
@ah Bullsheet !
Who are you trying to fool ? IBM has become a dump and under Arvind Krishna it has become come dinosaurus indianicus.
I genuinely sympathize with employees feeling anxious about layoffs and uncertainty. That stress is real. But it’s also important to separate understandable employee frustration from the idea that Arvind Krishna is somehow uniquely failing. Nearly the entire tech industry has gone through restructuring, automation shifts, and workforce reductions over the last few years — from Google to Microsoft to Meta.
IBM today is competing in a completely different environment than it was 20 years ago. Arvind inherited a company many people had written off as a slow-moving legacy giant, and he pushed it aggressively toward hybrid cloud, AI, and enterprise modernization. That doesn’t eliminate the pain employees feel during restructuring, but pretending job security disappeared only at IBM or only under Arvind ignores what’s happened across corporate America and the global tech sector.
Bobs needs you to buy more tokens.
2 for 1 bad token deal today only.
@aa it had changed how it was more and more PIPs rather than the large ones with 12 weeks severance
brown nose as much as you can - IBM management always appreciate that, even if they decide to let you go in time if you don't fit other job security criteria.
become an AI bot
How long have you worked theere? IBM is OG on the perputual layoff cycle.
There is a job security at IBM
1- be Indian.
2- be an expert in bullsh-tting
3- be a sc-mbag, back stabbing a--hole.
That’s why I left. They randomly put people on PIPs at anytime and they aren’t long . So I was hoping to get laid off but didn’t know for sure there’d be one. Was already marked a low performer and if they pick you a second time next year it’s automatic pip (firing)
