I’ve been thinking about searching elsewhere, but I wonder if this is just a sign of the times, or is Optum especially bad about having layoffs all the time? Will it really be better if I leave?

There is hope! I found a job at a local company, still fully remote. People are genuinely happy to be working there, and there’s no constant threat of layoffs, offshoring, or building AI bots for no reason. After being at Optum for almost ten years, I forgot was it was like to work at a place like that.
@de I was laid off from Optum last year and I have a much better job now so not all corporate jobs are horrible.
@ad I will say the culture at my company was pretty good until Optum acquired us and it went downhill from there.
@d9 That sounds easy but I don't think they will hire someone with a healthcare degree and no expeirence in those fields.
Honestly the grass is not greener. Optum is pretty bad but all Corporate America jobs are. :/
Move to finance or tech. Healthcare is a microscopic-margins dead end.
Yes it is and I didn’t want to believe it. I tried so hard to come back to optum because I had been there 12 years and was scared to join another company.
But I did it. It took 7 months but I did find a better job with more pay at a F500 and I’m still fully remote. Same title but it works. Don’t quit without anytime lined up - let them RIF you.
I took a look at my new employers “the layoff” page - not a peep. Completely inactive. What a relief.
Not in Healthcare insurance. Its all a race to the bottom. With AI and offshoring it is not much better in other industries either. Future looks rough.Maybe a smaller private company. I had my best years in that environment. But they get bought out all the time.
@OP check out the layoff boards for Cigna/HCSC, CVS/Aetna, and Humana and you'll see.
If you are looking for Greener Grass - make sure you check where the dog poops
@OP you'll discover Optum is just like the rest. We aren't uniquely awful, all the healthcare companies su-k
I think Optum is on par with the national healthcare providers. Look local health systems for better culture. They want to reatain employees who live in their markets.
Optum is uniquely awful. You can find a better culture, pay, and benefits elsewhere. Start looking now. The current market is challenging.
I would search and go through the interview process. If anything, its good practice.
