Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

A horrific experience

I came from a very tough regional bank, but being at BNY right now is way harder than that ever was. The team is extremely unorganized, there is no proper development process, and there was absolutely zero onboarding training. The culture is mostly toxic, my manager seems mentally unstable, and people are constantly backstabbing each other. It is an absolutely horrendous experience.

@ag I am a newer grad analyst in technology reporting to a tech. director in NYC. I should have accepted other offers and told my recent grad friends to do so also

@kc, my 30% pay bump after leaving that place still doesn’t get me to where I should be for all those years of 1-2% raises. At least I’m no longer putting in 12+ hour days. People who choose to stay are essentially taking a yearly pay cut.

@dt, what do you think the “people team” is gonna do? They support and enable this sht. BNY is one of those sh h*le companies. Do the bare minimum and focus your energy on looking for something better. Thank god I’m out of that pile of dung.

@kc BNY is a firm where people can fall upwards. These dudes in Corp Trusts probably run the show, now.

Best to not look back.

@b1

I also said 'so long!' to BNY Pgh about five years ago (right in the middle of Covid). After over ten years I'd finally had enough of getting a "raise" that was always under 2%. I bit the bullet as long as I could (and banked a lot of savings)...then I quit right after New Years. The only real satisfaction I felt was that it would be a beeyotch to train my replacement during the pandemic. I hope the two basstards running Corporate Trust suffered proportionately.

Meanwhile, they read the summary of peakon results and are 'pleased to hear that the majority of employees are happy and glad to be part of such a revolutionary company.' (Said no one...)

Words cannot describe how awful this place is.

@People Team - please take note. This relects on your organization too. Forget about your persistent PeakOn surveys and current performance feedback mechanisms. This is living proof of the type of culture that associates are navigating and are expressing disappointment over. What actions are being taken by the EC and the People Team to actively address and communicate? RV’s phony optics and “Silence as a Strategy” (SaaS) are not working here.

You should have read 'The Layoff' before you walked the plank!!
I feel your pain. Not much I can add as it's all true. My manager still seems fairly sane and as disillusioned as the rest of us. Not exactly an endorsement.

I know it's easier said than done, but people should devote more energy into leaving the toxic, political atmosphere. Even in IT, that BS permeates. There are greener pastures if you look.

Wow! I quit this hole of a company over 5 years ago. Nice to see it continues to go so swimming well! Or should I say MUCH WORSE! Thank goodness I quit! The good news is that I still have my sanity. The bad news is that it sounds like you're all about to lose yours! Good luck with that!

I started working here in August in the Early Talent Analyst program. In less than 1 year, I can confirm this place is not where you want to build a career. Get a few years of experience in then get out asap.

Congratulations OP!
You are well on your way to not meeting expectations. You actually have a functioning brain and independent spirit. Only Robin and Eliza are allowed to have that. At BNY, our restrooms are the epitome of our culture!
Happy failures!
