With how often we have layoffs, all of us have two choices. Run ourselves into the ground and hope for the best, or just kiss up to our boss and call it job security. One is a gamble. The other is gross but effective. Pick your poison.

I ran myself into the ground over the past two years, AND kissed ar-e, AND used CircuIT as instructed, AND innovated in my role over the past two quarters, AND still got laid off.
Apparently doing everything beyond what you're asked doesn't bring job security. I guessed I pi---d someone off.
How about just do your jobs? If you've had bad reviews for years and still eeked by, it's coming. Those of you that do the usual "pick it up at review time" - it's coming. You may have made it past this round, but the next one is going to get those people. Minimum, once the latest settles out a lot of people will end up on a PIP or coaching. A PIP you are pretty much done, coaching you may come out of. Here's to hoping those that have deserved to be fired for years finally end up fired or that they've turned it around a few quarters ago.
Only thing that saves is the eject button
don't have to run yourself into the ground but you need to adapt
@OP You need to part of their inner circle (/cult). Just doing what you mentioned won't help save your job at Cisco.
make your leader job easy so your name isnt offered up for next sacrifice for EPS
There is zero correlation to kissing up to the boss, and job security. It is irrational and illogical to believe that kissing ar-e will get anyone a pass when it comes to being targeted. Your boss may be putting on a complete facade that they appreciate you, and you are somehow insulated. When push comes to shove, there are no guarantees to keep from being kicked to the curb.
