Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Corporate Jargon

Anyone else read the corporate jargon email from Mr. Tractor today? The ELT wants us to build on three enterprise skills….which will lead to us being rewarded with what exactly? No one can be promoted anymore because of our terrible new HR model. What is the incentive to improve exactly? Don’t say VCIP either, that is turning into a total joke and has become essentially whatever the leaders want to pay. If we can’t be rewarded, what is the point of continuous improvement? That only works with companies that actually reward performance. This company is doomed until we have a real leader in HR and someone willing to stand up to the CEO and CFO.

@1sv yes, the only raise is a cost of living raise and the amount is the same if you are just meeting or exceeding expectations. Merit raises were abolished 2 years ago.

@w1 sad reality is that you will be walked out first because of the zero impact you have made here. Bless you on finding something better, I implore you.

It is a joke and I have run into people at other companies that have asked me about it from the constant LinkedIn postings. PSX HR is a front for BCG and Korn Ferry HR practices. Tractor man and his goons just implement what they are told.

Door swings out!
So many over paid useless people in P66. Just look at our Information IT department. I would outsource it all its not our core business.
Every single one of them

This company has consistently demonstrated deeply flawed HR practices at every level.

Even its hiring procedures warrant closer scrutiny.

I will say that so far, everything that has occurred under the new HR leadership has made things worse for the employees. You could maybe argue that rsu expansion was an improvement, but it really was a worse benefit since they have lowered vcip performance payouts alongside it.

All of this is so accurate. We overreacted to the Covid era DEI nonsense and now we’re stuck. We can’t undo these hires without major backlash and likely lawsuits. While on the other hand, ConocoPhillips just dismantled their entire DEI group, and rightfully so.

HR is a worthless function

Tractor Man is a self promoting, DEI promoting, hack.

He is building a resume at the expense of us all and has a BCG army to do work in the background to polish it to tell a story that is externally salable and that promotes him. He-l, he created an entire new titling structure to just get himself an EVP title.

Who else in our industry has an EVP of HR? The function is worthy of a single VP with managers leading the various departments. The competitive data shows this and the entire ELT believe it except for the CEO who allows Tractor Man to run wild. And a coward CFO who has no spine.

“We had an HR team, and that HR team was creating problems that didn’t exist. Those problems disappeared when I let them go.”

— Ryan Breslow hails that firing the entire HR team eliminated unnecessary problems created by HR itself!

It also helped get rid of “complain culture” at work and go back into execution mode.

So apparently removing the people that play thought police at work helps workers work.

Until the company brings merit raises back there is absolutely zero incentive to do more. The goal post have continued to move. This whole freeze of promotions destroys organic innovation within the workforce impacting continuous improvement. It is baffling the board is allowing this regime to decimate the workforce and de-incentivize skill expansion within the employees.
