Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How soon will layoffs happen?

We all know the rumor of Q1 layoffs, but how soon after Jan 1st do you think they’ll happen? Praying it’s sooner rather than later so we’re not all in limbo most of the quarter.

"I can’t imagine Ford not allowing internal transfers of good people to Model e or anywhere internally if they are qualified."

That's exactly what they did in August. Very few were moved nor considered to be moved; most were cut simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

One of the new geniuses told JF that everyone is clueless and there's better people out there that will come to Ford to be paid less. Probably the same genius who told him about the "brackets department".

UNSE is safe because it's not the Brackets Department. The Brackets Department is screwed.

UnSE - Underbody Systems Engineering. Lot’s of really great people work in Underbody. I can’t imagine Ford not allowing internal transfers of good people to Model e or anywhere internally if they are qualified. Always good movement flexibility at Ford - you can definitely have a fun career at Ford if you push for it. I can imagine some areas being short staffed after the lump sum takers left, so some employees could be blocked as unusual business needs dictate at this time -this is not likely a permanent situation.

If layoffs do occur, I hope the employees that want to go are given first opportunity with some incentive. They probably would have had more lump sum takers in November if an incentive was offered.

What is the meaning of the term "UNSE"? Even though I'm an ex-employee of Ford I never heard that of that word.

At UNSE it has been already identified those who are next in line to be fired. new section were created for those working on ICE related projects. Those individuals were told that they can not transfer to other sections since they are "needed" where they are. These sections are the next in line to be decimated with random firings. Basically, those sections were populated with "undesirables" for the long term future of UNSE.
One UNSE division has at least 50 openings for Model e related projects, no transfers from other Ford Sections will be allowed to fill those positions, HR is looking for fresh talent out of college. Those individuals will be assigned to Model e related projects.
According to LL's who retired last year, the next round of headcount reduction is expected in March 2023 and a second one in August 2023. Same timing as in 2022.

The only way the quality problems will be solved is with a smaller workforce. Cutting resources will guarantee better quality and trouble free new product launches.

That managements thinking behind it.

I’m also hoping for the VSSP option. Seems like they could hit whatever target they’re trying reach by doing that. So many people are unhappy there now.

Wonder if they'll offer a VSSP for those who did not want to take the lump sum or were not retirement eligible?

The majority of cuts coming from the LL6 & LL3 levels. More restructuring to occur.

Model e folks will need to be laid off first. They can't fool the company for too long by simply talking big. Start with Doug. Get back to building quality cars. Software cr-p is not required now. 80% won't spend more than 30k for a good quality car in US. They know what to buy.
