Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

H1Bs firdt

Citi tampa analytics and data science teams keeps promoting only H1B folks and stalls American workers and permanent residents. Hope the America first movement move to CITI Tampa as well.

@p3

I think a lot of people are confusing broader workplace issues with frustration or resentment directed at one ethnic group. At Citi, there are many teams where hiring tends to cluster around existing social or cultural networks — and this is not limited to “Desi” employees. Similar patterns can be seen across Italian, Polish, Greek, Asian, Latino, and many other groups.

Also, regarding H1B employees being promoted: in many cases, those are internal promotions. External contractors are generally employed through third-party vendors, so their compensation and career progression are managed by those outside companies rather than Citi directly.

A significant number of H1B-related salary adjustments may also be tied to legal compliance and internal pay-alignment efforts. Citi has been working to address salary disparities across different hiring periods and employee groups, and H1B employees are not the only ones affected by those adjustments.

As for external contractors, companies cannot simply “fake” green card sponsorships. Employment authorization and payroll are tied to Social Security records and immigration documentation. Any immigrant working without proper authorization risks losing their immigration status, so there are strong legal and regulatory controls in place.

Til I was at Citi earlier this year, from what I saw of Tampa it was a gang of Spanish speaking people supporting each other - interrconnected from NYC to Tampa to Costa Rica to Mexico to Columbia. Promoting each other, giving each other 1's and 2's for mediocre work at best and so on. Maybe there was an H1B gang too that I did not know about, but the Hispanic cartel I knew about and had first hand experience with

@OP
This might be the reason.
Employers are legally required to pay H-1B workers at least the prevailing wage for the geographic area or the actual wage paid to similarly employed U.S. workers.
