Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What's your number?

I'm thinking about leaving but I don't know what's worth it. Ten percent? Twenty percent? What would make you actually pack up and go?

10% or 20% less would be better to work for a good company with better opportunities vs the unethical nonsense at BNY.

I left 6 months ago for a 35% pay increase.

@k5, while there are no official statistics for an accurate measurement, this statement does appear to hold water.

I don't know many here that wouldn't get a raise for leaving. Salary, bonus AND benefits...

It’s really a personal decision on what number makes sense for you and your current situation. Sometimes taking a lateral move makes sense for potential growth opportunities or for your health. But as others have commented here, this is not a place for someone to learn and grow their career. Best to keep all your options open when seeking new opportunities.

BNY really isn’t the place to grow a career. Leave asap for more money and a better team.

Being done by 5 every day would get me to. Leave.

I left a few months ago. I make 2% more now. So basically a lateral move. At the new spot I am working from home three days a week and am allowed to use Claude. It's kind of nice to have an actual AI tool, not that BS Eliza. The people are cool and the politics are not evil. I'm much happier, even in this phase of a new job where it's stressful bc you don't have that comfort of knowing your job. Let that sink in. I was at the bank for a decade and I feel better and more comfortable at the new spot already. My 401k contributions are back to being mine immediately. F BNY.

If you know others at another organization and they describe the atmosphere as being better - go!

OP,
You are very short sighted and small thinking.
You don’t just leave for money. You leave for a place where you can have a career, grow, feel appreciated, feel safe, get better benefits, get more flexibility in your work life balance, have better piece of mind and mental stability.
Just making moves based on a simple bump in salary is d-mb. There are places out there like Goldman or BlackRock where you will get more Money but you will get more anxiety, stress and worse balance. It sounds like you aren’t in a desperate situation so try to think. Even taking no increase or a small decrease can be a far better reward than just a one time bump if you get all of the above.

Same money, better benefits package, more flexibility with work day.
