Heard some G8 were force to take a pay cut and become G7 and if they didn't accept those terms. They're gone and would not even get the severance package.

Yes. 1:1 with my manager I was told that my position no longer supported my level. VP (L8). I was given the option of demotion to director and move to another group or separation (with a small severance)
Is this what one poster here said "almost get laid off"?
This is true, I know three personally that are impacted. They were called into a flash meeting first thing in the morning and told to take a pay cut or find employment elsewhere. I cannot verify whether they would not have received severance, however, because all three took the pay cut—that’s just how much all of us here love working for Boston dev ops.
