Why do they have to stay so vague? Why not give us the exact number?

@OP - Former 25 yr+ V-Teamer here. Was laid off by T-Mobile in Jan ‘26. As part of the 50+ page severance agreement paperwork they include an Exhibit A “pursuant to the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990” detailing factors for “job elimination” in the specific organizational unit under a specific VP that includes job title and age as well as selection decision. Not sure why Vz gets away without sharing this.
There is no single, universal legal definition of "total workforce" that applies across all jurisdictions and contexts.
In corporate reporting and modern HR, the term is increasingly defined to include all people who contribute to an organization's work, regardless of their legal employment status.
@f5 OP, there may be issues with the math. I think we were 98k or so before November 2025. That left 75K subject to the reduction of 15K, per Dan's statement at the time. Subtract 13K (2k fewer than Dan's original statement) notified in November. That was roughly 17% of the riffable force that got hit and not quite the 20% initially stated.
Add 12.8K for Frontier. Can't count contractors because they aren't "rif'" - they can be terminated whenever and that original number doesn't(and shouldn't) include contracors. Of the original 99k, 25% are union/craft. Although they ARE employees, they aren't subject to rifs... and they have some protections related to collective bargaining. There have also been employees in Europe who have been made redundant in the last 1-2 months. There are a lot of moving parts.... is suspect the number notified last week was under 1K. Just a guess though. I'd be interested in the number, but not sure we'll ever know. I also think there will be cuts between now and October.
we had 89k before Frontier. If they are cooking the numbers and the total workforce includes Frontier and contractors, then 100% is 120k+
Reported "several hundreds" and "not related to AI" are classic PR spins to soften the backlash
they said less than 1%. So we have what 89k? So..... less than 890.
Back to work Dan needs some time alone with the Fembot.
10,000 is also few hundred
why does knowing the exact number matter to you ?
999 is a few hundred
I wish I could have been one of the numbers.
@OP Because integrity is at the core of everything they do!
Because we have 100 million customers and some of them care about their neighbors.
