RRSP and Termination

After termination, how long does it usually take to receive communications about the pension and RRSP plans? I’ve been waiting for about 3 weeks now and wanted to follow up.

I received a pension package shortly after my last day. Make sure to check your junk. Mine was sitting in there oops.

As for Sunlife, I had to call them. They told me after an employer sets you to “no longer with the company” it can take ~4 weeks for Sunlife to receive anything. Around the 4 week mark I was able to go in and choose what to do with my RRSP.

similarly I got alight stuff after a week, but after 30 days of nothing I called sunlife to say what the heck and the next day they called trying to get me to stay and said it would be another week before I got a package from them.

I received a package from alight on week 1 or two about my pension. Somewhere around week 2 was a call from a Sunlife sales rep begging me to keep my rrsp with them in a “Choices” account. After saying no, they were unable to provide further assistance. Somewhere around week 3/ week 4 I received a package from Sunlife with paperwork where I had to indicate what I was planning to do with my RRSP and tax paid accounts. FYI you have to initiate any withdrawals out with your receiving institution (ie not Sunlife).
