Oh my goodness, just starting out with this one way bs, and now we don't request holiday or time off. We bid for absence! Ffs
We are so fortunate to have jobs aren't we?!
It's nice to be treated like a human

Try reading dude. One of the activity tiles says "add absence" which says right on the card "Request an absence and submit for approval" while the other says "Create and submit an absence bid"
The bid is almost certainly for support roles as they are usually round the clock. For non-support roles, you won't need to use that.
I have the "bid" tile but I can't actually use it. Same with all the timecard tiles. They are there but only active for certain roles/orgs because Dell was too lazy to take uneeded "tiles" away from those who don't need them.
um no? You literally just click on the "add absence" tab and bo-m. There IS a "bid absence" section but that's not where you go to request PTO... My guess for the "bid absence" is for groups that work 24/7 such as tech support.
I think you're making a whole lot of nothing. It's really no big deal.
@OP that is because in places like tech support, queues are staffed based on forecast.
Typically, a queue is planned for n+2. They used to use a program called ewfm for this. That will be changing eventually I’m sure.
Some of the activity cards are shown to everyone, but they are not active for everyone. For example, I have a timesheet submission Block, but it is not active for me. Likewise, in my position, I don’t have to bid for absence. But some people might.
Unsurprisingly, more than those who care about you.
Who cares
@b6 Oracle would be behind it, this is a global platform that all of their customers use. This isn't specific to Dell. We don't get to choose what a lot of things are named since it a a shared product in their portfolio.
It's an unfortunate choice of words for what it actually does. Either the people behind it are incompetent, the whole product is poorly designed or the wording was chosen this way for a reason.

Look to the left where it says "Add Absense"... Some of ya'll got a real smooth brain.
Another American unable to understand the global definition of a word. Your ethnocentrism is showing mate
People who work in tech support roles typically need to bid for time off. I take it you are not in a support role and perhaps are getting the absence bidding part by mistake.
Don’t know what country you’re in, but mine in US says “add absence,” and “add absence type.” Nothing about bidding.
It's all part of the plan
