They told me to keep the cell phone like it was a special gift or something. They said it so gleefully expecting me to be thankful. Laptop had to go back no matter what.

Nah they are all designated as hand me downs for incoming ITC replacements
It is possible. People have been able to take phones but not laptops those need to come back. Unless i am missing something on this. I have personally never done this.
