Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Dan Schulman, Verizon CEO, On AI Layoffs & Punching Back.

Here is a new 41 minutes interview with Dan Schuman Interview posted 4 Hours ago on YouTube channel Semafor of you are interested. Link is at the bottom.

“If somebody’s going to punch me, I’m going to punch back,” Verizon CEO Dan Schulman says in this episode of The CEO Signal.

Schulman, who came out of retirement six months ago to lead the $200 billion telecoms company, reveals that he initially turned the job down — twice. But his mandate is blunt: stop losing customers to its rivals, regain Verizon’s “swagger,” and move it from a defensive posture to one that is “playing to win.”

That reset has come with hard choices. Schulman discusses Verizon’s major restructuring, why he chose to announce 13,000 job cuts all at once rather than “bleed it out over multiple quarters,” and why he thinks CEOs have responsibilities to employees who are leaving as well as those who remain.
Schulman describes the job of leadership as defining reality while inspiring hope — even when the reality is uncomfortable.

Schulman also looks ahead to the convergence of AI, quantum computing and robotics, and argues that CEOs need to be open-minded, humble and fast-moving. “A quick decision that is wrong and you self-correct,” he says, “is way better than spending months creating the perfect decision.”

Dan , what i see is a lot of mid level management that can't do the job! Then get rid of the people in the trench that can! Great plan? I have been here for almost 10 years and in that time I have had 8 new bosses? They keep trying to putting people in places were they don't belong! Putting wireless management in out side plant is stupid. Get rid of the spreadsheet jockeys and let us fix it. Stop all the reorganization cr-p! We need to get back to work.

He should start looking at his 3rd level management, they are making the front lines toxic and that will result in more customer loss than anything.. The Stick is not going to help his vision.

@ap Poor, sad white dude feels threatened by DEI. Get over it! Diversity is not what you should be worried about. Rich white dudes that think employees are easily replaced by AI and offshore programs is what you might want to focus on. It's getting real old that you can't get over yourself and read the room.

Personally Dan has the strategic vision but that alone is useless without Execution. My point is he has DEI AD, Director s, Sr Directors, AVP, VPs that were put in positions not because of execution on results but because of DEI targets set by Hans/Current HR SVP.

I fully embraced Dan aiming for. Results based Company... but the reality there is a significant DEI pool that will not have the ability to execute.

Personally, should revamp HR Leadership Team with results based Leaders like he has done in other departments.

Most of what he talks about in this interview is we have to cut, reduce headcount, we live in a AI world. He did state he would rather cut large numbers of employess instead of prolonging them over many quarters and years

Can’t wait to see how they recover all the AI spending after they have finished gutting most of the workforce.
