@26c Don't even get me started with the ridiculous performance review ratings to push older workers out so they leave on their own without severance. Majority of those with low performance rating of 4 or 5 were those who have been with the company for decades. Does it even make sense? If we survived for decades from being RIFed while majority of the USA employees getting RIFed, then we must have been performing pretty well for the company to keep us around for decades. We were the best of the best all those years and now since we are older, and they want to get rid of us, all of a sudden, we became the worst performing. At this point, we should ALL share our performance rating, age, business group, and years with a company. Gather the data in a spreadsheet, send it to New York Times and Wall Street, and file a lawsuit. If we win, it will be payback time from Nokia not paying us a salary increase for all those years. (And there were many.) And if we lose, we have nothing much to lose anyway since they are going to RIF us anyway.

I came in every single day for the Covid shutdown. Basically there were 4 of us coming in and keeping the show going. The rest working from home of course. One manager at a lake house out of state. We that came in had to pay for gas, we had commute time. The water in our building was basically off due to age of piping. What did they give us? Some credits to get some trinket online. I will never do it again.

@20b This is about to get worse for American born workers:
"Increase in Immigrant Men in the Labor Force. The number of foreign-born men in the labor force (16 to 64) grew by 14.6 million from 1960 to 2025. As already noted, over this same period the number of working-age, U.S.-born men NOT in the labor force increased by 13.1 million."

@19s I'm surprised at the New HR leadership has allowed this to go through. She should investigate this H1B case herself and all the past H1B cases that have magically found a job in another department after being notified of layoff. And the "person(s)" who keep hiring these individuals by bringing in an H1B candidates resume, instead of a qualified American person. All they have to do is track the money - the reward for bringing in the resume and those hiring the individual and those disqualifying an American. She will be surprised with the decades of paper trail.

@OP If the hantavirus spreads, Nokia is going to need every employee it can get just like during covid. Hope the new leadership has a plan for this. If not, they better start planning.

@OP Guess what folks. Another H1B job saved (moved from research to NI) while the 100+ US citizens who are very well qualified get laid off by Nokia of America Corporation. Reminder to Nokia - H1B visa's are TEMPORARY work visa. If you want to save a job, save one of the other 100+ US citizens job. Is Nokia abusing the H1B visa system?

@15b "Why Share Prices Can Rise After Layoff Announcements
Layoffs can sometimes boost a company’s stock price because they are often seen as a cost-cutting measure that improves profitability, which investors value. When a company reduces headcount, it lowers labor expenses, freeing up more of its revenue to be converted into profit. This can lead to higher earnings per share (EPS), which often drives up the stock price "

May will also have layoffs, basially all NAM projects are dead in a water right now. NAM should see 20-40% reduction in staff.
