Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

i’m holding out hope to land something

i was part of the wfr a couple months ago and still don’t have a job. i turned down one offer from a var due to bad reviews around bonuses and shady practices. mentally i feel relieved because i couldn’t sustain what dell had become in my area, but the job search has been rough.

i’ve even looked outside tech, and it’s clear my time at dell signals i’m older. i was hoping to retire there in a few years. ageism feels real, stuck in between too young to retire and too old to hire. i’ve even been asked my age in interviews despite it being illegal. still, i’m holding out hope to land something, ideally with a much better culture.

Don't despair. Stay positive. Honestly your career in the tech industry is most likely over at this point. There are other options out there that you may not have thought about. Take a look into possibly taking a job as a school bus driver. The pay is pretty good, and schedule isn't bad either. Also there may be custodial or maintenance positions open in your local school district. There is usually work to be found for dependable and professional people regardless of your age. I wish you good luck.

I was a 20+ year employee WFRed. The tech industry is pretty much dead for employees. You need to widen your search to the handful of sectors that are growing and that don't (yet?) view people as garbage to be thrown out as quickly as possible. Get out of tech and check smaller companies, mid-market business, corporate parents of the trades. Get with headhunter if you can. Good luck!

Stay strong and don't give up.

I was lucky to get an offer before i resigned. With the job market globally not stable and lots of WFRs, it will be tough.

Just keep applying and keep your hopes up.
