@kx are you serious? I travel quite a bit; so many countries are years ahead of the US in so many categories of everyday life.

@en similar to the Alienware team who just rides around the country setting up the rig and playing video games with people all day. Sounds unfair but critical to getting our products out there.. Some people just regret the job they chose and are jealous of others who get to do cool things. Awesome for Forrest!

@bh Dell employees in many countries outside the US are eligible for sabbaticals, some countries you can take them as frequently as every two years. I know the concept is foreign to people based in the US, where you’re brainwashed to work yourself to death and it’s frowned upon to even take two weeks off in a row.

Did you read this in the article - Forrest will continue his day job? He’s an Account Executive, on the road often meeting customers. The only difference here is he’s meeting a broader range of customers (even customers that aren’t in account set) along the way and showcasing Dell Rugged.

“Along the way, Forrest will also continue his day job from the road, demonstrating how the right technology can empower the balance of productivity and the pursuit of passions”

Not a sabbatical or a vacation—more like an opportunity to focus on two of his passions.

@bh I've taken 2 so far. I also have 4 weeks of vacation before holidays and other closures and PTO. In total I have 8+ weeks every year

@bz at least 3rd world acts like 3rd world while trying to make up for lazy 1st world folks like you. Do you think you 1st world folks are so good that you can run a company on your own? Even your leaders realized how lazy you guys are and have to import talents from the so called 3rd world countries.

Dell is a 4th tier company with opened arms for H1bs. When you import 3rd world, you get 3rd world ethics and integrity

Working at Dell can feel like living inside the system that sells the freedom you can see but don’t fully have, where the promise goes outward and the control stays inside.

@OP Dell speaks out of both sides of its a-s. I guarantee if we ever had another pandemic, they would love remote work again. Hypocrites!

They spent years telling everyone remote work was the future. Not because they believed in some new way of life, but because it kept business moving and helped them sell the tools that make remote work possible. It was good for revenue, so they pushed it hard.

Now they’re calling people back into the office. Not because remote work failed, but because control matters more to leadership than flexibility. Being in the office is easier to monitor, easier to manage, and fits the structure they’re comfortable with. On top of that, they’ve got billions tied up in office space that they’re not going to let sit empty.

So the truth is simple. The message changes depending on who they’re talking to. To the public and customers, it’s freedom and work from anywhere. To employees, it’s show up and follow the system.

It’s not confusion. It’s not mixed signals. It’s intentional.
