Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Side hustles

I’ve been noticing some serious “entrepreneurial spirit” in the company lately and I just wanted to check in. in my team "work from home" now feels like everyone quietly running a startup out of their kitchen table while their MS Team stays open for decoration.

one colleague is “on a call” all day says he ships ten dropship orders before lunch like a 1 person warehouse. another always says he is “deep in the spreadsheets” while dogsitting his neighbors 2 golden retrievers always clocking out at 3 to touch grass.
another one takes “quick coffee breaks” to turn in three content videos and 2 brand replies before his latte is gone. another guy says he’s in consulting and he is on call most day. still not sure who pays his tab. DXC or his consulting business that somehow has more clients than his unit in DXC.

if you need me I’ll be “in a meeting” steaming vintage jackets for my fast growing online resale empire. dx c is starting to feel like a hobby at this point. peanuts money for zero effort so I’ll take that deal all day.

What’s your real income stream, since clearly it’s not DXC??

@149 Professional people do not tolerate being taken for a ride on salary and conditions. They do not simply keep working because they are told to, while accepting repeated 0% pay rises year on year. Have some respect for yourself. If you want to give your time for free, at least do it for a charity or an organisation that values your efforts in other ways.

We have worked in the past on promises. It's got us nowhere, and the same 0% as people who did very little. The problems with DXC are entirely with it's management policy.

In the US DXC is just for insurance (not great but it's something). All my time is spent on side hustle that ends up paying me more than DXC. Sometimes I worry I'm pushing it too much but as long as I kissing my bosses a** and send timed emails outside of business hours it's all good.

Side hustles shouldn’t be discouraged. The only issue is when they clash with your role or affect delivery.

Mine’s been one of the best learning environments I’ve ever had. If something breaks, it’s on me—no hiding behind process or passing it on. At the same time, I’ve learned how to build things that don’t depend on me being available 24/7, and also how to explain them clearly to real users.

Ironically, that freedom to just get things done is often what’s missing in large organisations. I bring those lessons back into my main role. It’s not a distraction—it’s practical experience.

Everyone has finally realised the value of Networks, we were 2 years ahead of everyone, good to see everybody has caught up.

Recently had to loosen the security logging for a few higher-ups. Some of them are browsing adult sites in the middle of the workday. You wouldn’t believe what I saw. It’s actually inspired a side hustle. I’m thinking of writing a book titled confessions of an infosec professional.

And they still have their job done? If yes, any action against this kind of extra activity should be considered a crime against humanity. Especially in this economy. As long as their job is being done, no one should be bothered.

DXC is a small part of my income. I treat them like background noise. They treat me and other employees exactly the same way. Feels like a fair deal.

DXC is less than 1/3 of my total income. Hence why I stay. I couldn't make that money in total on a single job. But this company will kick you out on Friday if it could. It pays to have a full back plan, and remove single points of failure. Only practicing what I've been taught!!!
