I think we've slipped down almost to the bottom of the list, judging by the quality of new hires.

The reality is Cisco is a good place to work. Considering the tough job market, one would be fortunate to land a job at Cisco.
On the negative side, you do face the annual first quarter layoff which tends to affect 4% or more. This is a Cisco annual tradition.
On the plus side, many just need to be in the office once per weekend. Cisco is big on hybrid and remote work, even before covid.

Cisco hasn't been a first choice since the stock went from $82 to $8. Run static analysis from code before that happened and you'll see most people didn't know how to write code even back then. Many who came in through acquisition after the stock dropped left for companies that could do development before fully vesting to keep their skills from collapsing.
It actually is a great choice for the typical candidate we see now...hailing from either Eastern Europe or Bangalore
As far as I can tell, Cisco is basically finished hiring full time devs in North America.
Our Ukrainian devs are very enthusiastic...probably because our MacDonald's-grade pay is 3x their local earning potential.
Cisco is not an innovative, egineering tech company, Cisco is an acquisition based sales company. Engineers are not welcomed here, they ask too many tough questions based on evidence and not BS.
