Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Hiring freeze in model e?

Is there a hiring freeze in model e or is it business as usual? Asking because I'm interviewing for a role and suddenly the recruiter went quiet.

This is essentially Ford Motor Company’s hover tank. Which one is Sgt. Bilko? Is it Doug or Jim?

Count yourself fortunate. They are looking for fresh meat to throw out into traffic when this all comes crashing down on them. I don't know what else to say except that you dodged a bullet, and you'll likely not know the favor that afforded you. This program doesn't have realistic expectations. They should delay it because if they don't, it will be one of the biggest embarrassments to Ford in a long time. Extremely damaging to an already tarnished EV position and it's the last thing they need. But they will likely continue so no wonder DF got himself out of the blast radius on this one, any sane person would do the same in his position.

Ain't this the truth...not sure how they expect whatever it is they are working on to roll across any production line in Kentucky in '27...but I guess we will see, or we won't. DF said he would be there to get the 1st one....what a joke. He's not going to be within 100 miles of whatever happens, otherwise he'd stay on they measly year to see it through. It's not that complicated.

To keep up appearances while posting jobs, but not actually hiring anyone. They know what's on the horizon, but cannot give the appearance that they do, this job postings are out there, but they still can't get things done because no actually lands.

Why would Model e be hiring at all?

Don't see how this is possible. Maybe word got out how much of a 1 way ticket it appears to be. Recruiter resources lack? I don't buy it. If there's any low hanging fruit to have no excuse to staff up it recruiters. Easy to find them.

@hn There has been so much churn at the top level in that org like musical chairs. It is full of H1bs and management is toxic as he-l - STAY AWAY!

Lol. Not for long buddy. Everyone working in skunkworks is just going through the motions at this point. Everyone only pushing forward to please management for cosmetics, not because they think anything will actually come of it. But because they need to keep their jobs until they find a way out. Not one person actually believes anything will cross a line next year. Oh sure they'll work like it has to succeed because they get paid to. But you gotta be kidding me if you think things are going well. Management knows it's cooked. That's why once engaged managers are acting detached and she'll shocked all the sudden. Read the room.

What makes it the top organization? How much money it makes and what it does for the bottom line? Didn't think so. Sit down pops.

Model e is the top organization within the entire company. I have not heard anything suggesting otherwise.

I proudly work in Model e.

I thought MJ said model e is just a business construct for reporting sales. You can’t get hired into model e. This post is a troll. Or the hiring recruiter doesn’t know what management said this week.

No man. Infotainment is a huge and its mess. Go to some other team. They keep wanting to put junk on it that doesn't belong there. Go to some functional area that is safety related and isn't prone to worthless bloatware.

How is the Infotainment group? I would like to apply in that group but am not sure after reading the comments.

In general I would say if you are on CE1 your probably not "safe" in whatever it meas as far as job security, and I think everyone knows it. Also, if you job consists of nothing more then checking in with people on the status of other work, you are probably in the same boat no matter what you are working on. If you are the one actually doing the work you are safer than most, but probably not as safe as you'd think. So if the majority of your job is "Any update on this?" get ready to pack your bags. Not only are you probably an annoyance, you likely aren't doing much work.

ADAS is hiring like crazy. Haven’t heard about a hiring freeze. But I also agree that certain groups at Ford are a just horrible place to work at. So many managers at Ford don’t know any technical details about what their team does, the managers are so incompetent.

Yes this would be one instance where I'd consider being ghosted a favor or at a minimum a useful signal that probably saved you a ton of grief.

Hiring freeze and more restructuring and layoffs on the horizon. Doug Field’s firing is a telltale sign of this.

The only U.S. citizens who should be considering a job in automotive are people who cannot leave the Detroit area. Maybe you have sick parents in a nursing home. Maybe your spouse has a really good job in another industry and your job is just extra income.

But the companies have made it quite clear: U.S. citizens need not apply.

And if you currently have an automotive job in S.E. MI, the outlanders in management positions are going to vigorously pursue their “in-group preferences” and replace you with someone from their “group”.

Forget about it and move on. Not worth your time and I'd question any position in automotive right now and it's longevity. Ford is in some serious trouble. Kumar isn't going to carry the torch, he's going to put it out and take the parts he needs. Anyone that expects anything else is living a dream the rest of us aren't.

This is horrible advice. I know its not your job to care about other people's careers but don't misguide them on purpose because that just makes you a bad human being. What do you have against people in general to compel you to give out this kind of advice?

OP: I recommend to keep trying, if there is anywhere in Ford you want to be, it is Model e. Still the most important unit within Ford and with the brightest future thanks to DF's leadership.
