I can't with people who say there were surprised by layoffs. How?? Layoffs have been a regular occurrence for years. Constant small cuts with several major rounds every few months. Where were you if you managed to miss this? I'm not saying it should be like this, but please, stop saying "layoffs happened out of nowhere."

I think I read on LinkedIn that the Chief Staff Officer was shown the door a few weeks ago already.
My colleague and I were laid off a few weeks ago. We were the only two (you can guess, we are over 40 and are well paid) on our team that were let go. We were top performers. I was psychologically prepared for years now, telling myself I could be next, so that I would never feel blind sided. Let me tell you, even with that preparation, nothing prepares you for that email, that meeting, that abrupt ending after you gave quite a bit of yourself to a company for many years. Yes, my life is upended, my finances, precarious. Just know that even if you are "prepared" and "know it can hit any of anyone, anytime" you can't really prepare for that email. It's just too bad that the chief people officer can't get a taste of that medicine. One can hope that Enrique shows her the door.
Please end your existence. You getting annoyed with someone’s verbiage after they just lost their livelihood just shows your privilege. Go finger wag a hummer’s verbiage as you run into oncoming traffic.
These 5k layoffs you mentioned haven't been confirmed have they?
I don't think anyone was expecting upwards of 5,000 tho...
